I will say that if I saw 'her' in person before all of the controversy/headlines, I would have said "Howdy sir" myself...can't blame them for wanting to make sure, and at the same time can't blame her or her family for feeling insulted, either, but I understand why they wanted to do the test - I wouldn't believe she's female either
