I haven't visited this one in a while. It is a great shaving razor, that delivers BBS shaves, with every shave. Razor- F.W.Engel's "Leader". Solingen Germany Brush- @oscar11 creation. Synthetic knot. Soap- Wholly Kaw "OUD". Aftershave- Shulton Old Spice. Ships Flask Decanter.
First use of the Friday razor from my four day matched set of mini-Lunds. The smaller blade took on the two days of growth with no problem but some adjustments in technique are helpful with the reduced mass. Continuing the Heljestrand journey with the MK57. A 5/8”+ razor but a significantly different grind and spine shape. The 57 has a heavier grind, I would call a 1/2 hollow, which provides more of a muted scraping sound. And I think you can see a flat thin peak on the spine. That goes all the way through the tang. I think it looks great but it feels a little unstable in use... like it wants to roll. Something you can get used to, but just a little unsettling at times. Overall, a cool looking Heljestrand option, but not a favorite. Enjoy your shave. Tom
Tanifuji MaxFli 5000 stainless, soap was MdC fougere lathered with the hippie brush, and Speick was the AS of choice. Great shave from a great razor maker.
Thank you sir, it’s actually a refurb from Stefan aka mainaman. He does really good work. @gssixgun knows him but I don’t believe he posts here.
Hehehe Stefan is another J-nat nut just like @Steve56 I could not imagine thje two of you at a meet You guys would be adding Slurry dust to your coffee
I love that tanifuji. I want it. Over never seen the maxfli in anything other than translucent red, which is gorgeous as well
They’re not common but I wouldn’t really call them rare. They come up from time to time on Yahoo Japan. The scales sparkle like the Hayashi 8000 scales, neither of which I have been able to capture well with any camera that I have. They’re really a little tacky but they are eye catching!
I often find myself saying the very same thing after seeing many of Steve’s @Steve56 hones. He’s got good taste, huh?
A lovely pair of Matsukura razors for a sweet shave this morning: the Hadoson 63 and an Aiku for Barbers 60. I cannot recall which JNat these guys came off of, but I must have done something right. Very sharp, smooth edges:
