Well, yes, if you worry about that sort of thing. It does provide a bit of skin stretching and in theory helps keep from making a wrong set down. However, like the guard blades available, it's a bit of a nuisance once you learn to shave with an Artist Club razor, aka "pain stick". Maybe because I started on a CJB, I found the Feather SS to be a bit difficult at first, mainly because that slight lip throws off the natural angle. It isn't a huge change, but enough to foul you up for a bit if you start with a Feather DX or something cloning that. (CJB, Kai). Honestly, I have taken worse cuts from the SS than any of the others. Having to play with the angle has caused me to slip up and do some strange things. When using the DX, CJB or Kai, I typically start the stroke with the head of the razor flat against my face (or head in a head shave) and then add angle slowly until I can feel the blade in position. Then I'm set. Trying that with the SS I found I can have a tendency to roll too far to feel the blade, then apply the stroke and BAM! Too much angle and it's a poor set down situation that bleeds.

Some may say I'm overstating a problem, and that's ok. Just telling you my experience and why I prefer a traditional style over the SS.

Thanks, Jason! It's good to be back. Why are jealous? Because of the number? It's a really great brush! Evan (@MrEE) builds great brushes. But the razor is truly awesome. I waited over three months for delivery, and it was definitely worth the wait. All AC razors are not created equal. The Oren just didn't work for me. I really like the General. In combination with that Feather Super it delivered one of the closest shaves I've ever experienced.

I'll argue in your favor Charlie. I've seen you at BBQ dinners and breakfast. You have tipped every single time. A quarter - that's $0.25. Never failed.

Yeah, Blair, they replaced the top cap on my razor and readjusted the base plate. It shaves like a dream now. I was using it in the hospital up until I really got sick. It's definitely one of my favorite razors. Delivers a great head and face shave. I start at five for the face and head and then dial it down to three for my final pass. @McCrae and I have discussed his RA. I thought he was considering contacting Razor Emporium. They did a beautiful job repairing mine.

Thanks Neal. When you said I had short arms and deep pockets, I thought you were paying me a compliment. Now I know for sure. :D

Has it made a difference? The best advice I received to dial it in was to start very low and work my way up. I agree with Blair on his ‘negative’ pressure notion. That pretty much represents my approach. Once you get it dialed in, it’s a great razor.

Honestly, it only seems a tad smoother and I can't really tell if it made a difference. When I asked Matt the reason for replacing the top cap and if anything else was wrong with the razor (alignment, etc..) I got no reply...
But, I've had a few "good" shaves with it, hopefully by the end of the month they can be as good as my Rockwell 6S
