Is Arko the greatest value in all of shaving?

I had a similar experience on a train from York to London. Got a free soft drink that time. :)

And go ahead and laugh, James, but we have all the Gillette adjustables. :happy102:

Thanks Charlie, I'll get to start doing that, so it can gradually become a habit. We can't be TOO overconfident in our shaves. Your uplifting words (for shaves and Coronivirus)are indeed .....well, just that. :)

    Thanks, Patrick!

I've got no beef against Arko--I used it for a couple years when I first started wet shaving. I love the price-point; I respect the performance; I don't mind the scent (it smells to me like Ivory soap (I grew up using Ivory)). However, with only 3 soaps in my rotation, it's not quite enough to just like a soap, or keep it around for when I feel nostalgic; I have to look forward to using it, and after years and years of using Ivory soap, Arko is ultimately just... soap. Nothing special.

Apologize to Natalia for me. In almost everything I am compliant, but unless Arko makes a 1 ounce size, I don't think I could spend a third of my shaves without starting to resent it just a bit after a month or two. I'd rather look back on my good-old days of wet shaving with fondness ;)

Awesome line-up, Neal! I used to use Arko the same way.

Can't help but notice the jar of Orange chill in the background--you weren't going for a frankenlather, were you? ;)

Great shave, Chris! Love Aqua Velva--haven't tried the Musk yet, though. :)

I'll be using the regular Aqua Velva a lot this summer. The Musk is nice...has more of a cologne persuasion...in fact that's what it IS....Aqua Velva Musk Aftershave*Cologne.

Wow! 6'+, bearded, and shaving with an open blade at 14? Might as well just give him his driver's license and man card now. ;)

    That's just mean :sad024:
I can't even get hold of a user grade one to try out! I don't even care about it being shiny!

We're getting more and more cases where I live, too. I was hoping this would just be an extended, work-at-home kind of spring break thing. Looks like we're going to have to get settled in for the long haul.

I believe platinum coatings are an irritant for me.

I think Voskhod and GSB are teflon coated.

I have trouble with ATG as well. Out of curiosity, is it razor burn you're getting, or is it that the razor is having trouble slicing through hairs when you go ATG. For me, it's the latter. I've found that if I reduce my beard further with a 2nd WTG/XTG kind of hybrid, it makes the ATG pass a lot easier. That said, I rarely do three passes and usually just deal with the hairs wanting to catch at the blade on my ATG pass.

If it's razor burn, the thing that works best for me is shallowest possible angle, and minimal pressure. "Negative pressure." Just wipe the lather away and forget about cutting hairs. That said, I am perhaps the greatest offender of shaving using...

I've been singing this for the last couple months instead (as per Chris @Bama Samurai and Patrick @9nein9 ) , and it has done wonders...

    ;)

Nope. Just hadn't put it back on the shelf yet. Not sure how well those two would mix!
