    Max Headroom Aggressively.....
    TAR'd & FEATHER'd

Late this morning during a TSD Adjustables April commemorative shave, one Max Headroom (cyber alter ego of this reporter) is found clutching his face in amazement after shaving with a recent creation of that shave gear wizard @twhite.

Turns out that the TARs (Tom's Adjustable Razor) in both beefy brass and stealthy aluminum are visiting the Headroom Domain for trials. And what a kickoff there was.

Stirling Unscented Sheep always gets the nod on new tests. Even though it has a smell not unlike shoe polish I've used, nothing, and I mean nothing gives up the puffy, thick, slick, protective, long lasting suds like this mutton tallow miracle.

I don't think I recall any of the other testers dialing up more than 4. Here is a shot.....

Certainly aggressive in my book. Here is a Parker Variant wide open for comparison.....

Now since we have been hanging out with the 30DC, we have been brainwashed into the idea that adjustable razors should be used wide open, off we went at 6......

Using the common belief that riding the cap with a rock in only enough for blade contact presents the blade at its best shave angle, the minimum.

I'm not sure the guard ever came into play and shaved only riding the cap and edge.

Only occasionally do I feel done or almost done at 2 passes, and this qualified. Selective sectional 3rd pass finish things up.

Alum was talking, but not screaming. And I finished up with Deep Blue Sea from the Max Headroom List of Most Glorious Stanks.

Not long ago, I was trying to find a 2011 Muhle R41, just to try. After this shave shave..... Nah.

The fit, function, and attention that went into this is word class A+++. Yup I'd like to own one.

For those of you with MAYhem on the mind here us a shot of another full twist on the adjuster. Well past 10.

This just might be the best DE shave I've ever had.

  6. TARrific shave Bill!
  7. Sounds like a good way to pass the time
  8. Daaaaaang, Bill--you live life on the edge! I love reading all the TAR accounts, but this one was gutsy for sure. Will you play around with lesser settings later on, or are you going to continue with your foot to the floor?

Also curious to see how the alumi-TAR does with the throttle open. Congrats on a fantastic first TAR shave! :D
  9. Best DE shave you’ve ever had? High praise indeed, Bill. Congrats!
  10. Thanks Jason.... one of them is a run on sentence though. :happy102:
  11. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Joseph. He is a truly talented man, and I wish him a complete and speedy recovery.

I'm super excited for you, Charlie! How much cooking do you do normally? :D
  12. You should record the next one with your Fatip Grande! So I can see the angle
  13. In college I paid $150 for a used Honda CB 360, rode her for two years. Wasn’t worth the money needed to fix her.
  14. It always amazes me how little engine size a motorcycle requires. Brilliant things really!
  15. Awesome shave and report, Bill! Thanks for all the pictures at the various settings. Looks intense!

  16. Thanks, Jim. It's a very classy scent, which has received the coveted SWMBOSOA©.
  17. Excellent report, Bill. With regard to your statement: "I'm not sure the guard ever came into play and shaved only riding the cap and edge." THIS is exactly why I use the term "gimmick", when speaking about adjustables. (No disrespect intended, Tom, your craftsmanship is extraordinary). What's the difference what the gap is? 1) You don't shave with the gap. 2) What's underneath the razor blade is irrelevant; if you use the cap as your "guide".
JMO. Curious to get your opinion.
  18. To my friends at TSD, an update on my dear friend, Bob. Last night the ventilator was only accounting for 50% of his oxygen needs, down from 90%. This is great news. I am so grateful to everyone, who included Bob in their prayers. Thank you. :love055:
  19. Good morning everyone!
A quick report while I have some data time.
Got out my PAL adjustable, loaded a new B-20 blade.
Set wide open to "L", hmmmmm.
Smooth going on the head and face, a good shaver to say the least.
This is one of my favorite injectors, it fits my hand well and mows the brush down efficiently.

This stirling is great in the morning, the bath soap helps clear the sinuses and feels great.
The shave is cool and refreshing.
2 passes head and face no issues.
This razor is somewhat hard to find.
Glad I stumbled upon it when I did.
Clean and smooth, ready to.... go?
    Well, I like it anyway.
    All
    stay safe!
    ENJOY!

Welcome to Fatboy Wool Fat Friday as we shelter in place. I’ve never been a fan of Gillette Adjustables, and today’s shave certainly didn’t change my opinion. My Gibbs Adjustables provide a much better vintage shave, and there’s just no competition at all when the ultimate modern artisan adjustable, the Rex Ambassador, comes into the comparison. A good friend who is a serious collector of Gillettes with a focus on British models, has sold all his Gillette Adjustables. Gillette Adjustables are just very mediocre shavers.

The shave began with a cold water rinse. The Jayaruh Custom #343 generated a nice thick paste that was then applied to all shave surfaces and face and dome lathered into a thick, yogurty, protective lather using plenty of water. The first WTG pass didn’t compare to yesterday’s ATG first pass, even with the razor wide open. I dialed down to 7 for my second XTG and ended up with a nick on the left side along the jawline and a few weepers on the left side of the dome which required styptic intervention.

The head on the Fatboy is bulky and nowhere near as maneuverable as the slimmer heads on the Gibbs or the Rex. I just don’t like this razor. Although I needed a third pass, I quit and settled for a very unsatisfactory CCS. The only bright spot is that tomorrow I’ll be shaving with my Gibbs Adjustable.

    RAZOR: Gillette Fatboy
    BLADE: Feather
    PREP: Cold water rinse
    BRUSH: Jayaruh Custom Boar #343
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with A&E Post-Shave Serum
