I'm Finding that I can get an OK shave with any razor anymore.
Some are not as close as others, but still a good shave.
I seem to change razors every day, keeps things fresh.

Not a bad shave today. I set the Rex to setting two and went to work with a Rockwell blade on it's third and last use, it was beginning to get a bit tuggy. I believe I'm starting to come to grips with the fact that this razor almost always has some blade feel to it, almost like it's going to bite. I also find I need to angle it towards the guard a bit more than with some of my other razors, otherwise, it begins to scrape. Nevertheless, I watched my pressure, angle, and made sure to stretch parts of my face. The results, a comfortable 2 pass DFS. I quit chasing the baby a while back, these days I'm more concerned with a close enough shave with zero irritation. The alum gave a slight tingle, but there seems to be no irritation. I didn't get as close as I would have liked on parts of my neck, but I wasn't going to push it.
Hopefully, as the month goes on I can get an even closer shave with no irritation, only time will tell...
    Take care gents!

Hmmm. That must have changed, then. One of the reasons I got them was because they came at a pretty good price (around $10-12 if I recall correctly). Or it's possible someone was trying to unload some sub-standard bics off onto the first naive chump that walked by--I easily qualify as both ;)

Sorry the soap didn't work out for you. I was eyeing the new Silk formula but now I'm having second thoughts.
I'll keep that in mind, James. The 2011 version has me curious, the 2013 not so much. Andrew @Linuxguile did an aggressive razor comparison a while back and the 2013 wasn't quite up there with stuff I already have.
Don't get me wrong, I don't feel that I need aggressive razors but I do enjoy the variety.

A DE without a safety bar, perhaps? If so, get that sucker cranked out in time for MAY-hem! ;)

They're definitely sharp. They're substantially smoother than Feathers to my mind.

Fair enough! It's interesting because lots of shavers rate the 2013 as more aggressive as all but the iKon Tech and the 2011. I guess it all comes down to YMMV.

This setup is one of my favorites. The orange scent and this vintage razor is the cats meow. Unfortunately, I got a big ow because after my first pass, I did a numbet on my left pinky. It is a bad wound that I double wrapped it with thick bandaids. As a real trooper, I finished the 2nd pass and got a cut on my right neck that wasn't too bad because I didn't need a styptic. I did get a IBSS with no irritation. The ironic part was I could have stopped after the razor mowed down a 40+ hr stubble after the first pass. Ended with the aftershave splash and no Nivea. Have a nice day fellas. 20200403_103402.jpg 20200403_103402.jpg

They were pretty sharp, I'll give them that; but they weren't all that smooth for me. I got pretty significant razor burn with them. Admittedly, it is highly likely this was due to operator error rather than a shortcoming in the blades, themselves.

While made on a stove top is traditional & produces good results....don't discount a rice cooker with a porridge setting. Since I'm the cook 95% of the time in our house.....when the girls were just starting elementary school (almost 10 years ago), I bought a Zojirushi rice cooker. Programmed for 6:30am. Before bed throw in Bob's steel cut oats and water, set to porridge and press start (less than a minute's time), and 10 years later we're still waking up to goodness. Add in butter & some brown sugar...yumly.

Fantastic photo, shave, and report, Dan! I agree: a DFS with no irritation trumps a BBS with razor burn :D
