Haven't seen that stat but I did read there's already upwards of 84k flu deaths just this season.

Corona now around 3,600 deaths with at least 75% known to have had at least one preexisting condition.

Let the low risk majority get back to work before it is too late.

We dont have a good medicine yet. The famous Hydroxychloroquine has a lot of side effects related with vision and symptoms of heart failure...

Remdesivir? Well Gilead is american because for Europe someone told me they only had 300 boxes available. I dont have experience with it, I cant say if its safe or effective.

Right now the emergency state is working in Portugal, we are growing below 20%.

I understand what you mean about the economy, but if you dont stop this, it will be the caos in the hospitals. Nobody was expecting this. We werent prepared for any of this. And this will last for months, we need to find a way to deal with it, without everybody get sick at the same time.

Its only dangerous for old and sick people? Normally Yes, but we had some cases of kids and young people dying or beeing seriously sick.

My doubts? Do we get immunity? Does it have long time damage? Do we prepare for a second wave in winter?

Not in nearly all cases, however. That's why it's been used for so long and so widely for malaria.

In Korea we are still averaging 100 new cases a day, about half are 'imported'. In the news yesterday there was a big story about girl who returned from the US with Covid. She and her mom were planning to go to Hawaii for vacation but obviously they had to cancel. Despite having symptoms they decided to take 'down scale' vacation to Jeju Island in the southern tip of Korea. For 5 days they traveled around not wearing masks and spreading Covid, Jeju had almost no cases before but now every store, restaurant and hotel they visited has to close and everyone they came in contact with has to isolate for 14 days. Now the impacted businesses and people are suing them. They are rightful famous in Korea now for they selfishness.

Last night after work I went for a walk to see the cherry blossoms. Smaller than usual crowds but still people were out.

This is the latest stats for Korea, the right hand column is age, the number of confirmed cases (% of confirmed cases), number of deaths (% of all deaths), death rate. For 80 and older they make up 50.9% of all deaths despite being only 4.57% of all confirmed cases and their death rate is greater than 18.5%.

Its in portuguese, I know xD

Brief translation: 20 days after 100 cases

Day 1: when Italy, Spain and Portugal reached more than 100 cases.

At day 7 we had more cases than Spain. We were growing at more than 30%.

On the last 7 days we are growing at 15.8%.

Yes our economy will suffer a lot, we are a small country. But I believe that we will save a lot of lives, and keep people safe.

I see that 10,000,000 US workers have lost jobs in just the last two weeks as the economic effects of lock-in become reality.

    Stagering stuff.

At some point soon, this national shutdown will need to end. The economy will collapse, or at least be crippled, for a long while. Hurry up, make the ventilators, start quarantining those susceptible, and let the rest get back to work.

I'm irritated. If I was on unemployment right now, I'd be making more money than I am working, what with the +$600 bonus they are paying out in Oregon every week on top of unemployment benefits.

I'm grateful to have a job, don't get me wrong, but I'd at least like to be paid as much for working as I could get for vegging on the couch playing video games, not risking my life and health right now.

Edit: with max benefits, unemployment compensation in Oregon is $30 per hour. Average wage in Oregon is $25 an hour.

most welders/mechanics/machinists/fabricators wages per hour haven't increased much since the 80s here..every minimum wage increase means we make less for our services as well..the guy who strokes a doohickie makes 2/3 the wages 20/30 year seasoned guys do with little work.

No doubt, some big numbers came out and will only get worse in the coming weeks.
I have a gut feeling when all this shakes out and 10-20 years down the road, it will be known more for the economic damage.
So much could change coming out of this.. The College education structure could look totally different (which wouldn't be the worst thing..lol). Business employee structure could look completely different as well . It's not all bad (hopefully) but it is a crazy times.

    Noticing a pattern?

If the media is to be believed, NYC is perhaps the hardest hit of anywhere in the U.S.

    So...

33% of Americans have hypertension, 11% have diabetes, 48% have some form of heart disease, and that's just a third of the underlying conditions on the list. With a list like that, they may as well throw in brown eyes and right handedness.

There seem to be two distinct groups in the US today that I am seeing across all of these discussions everywhere

#1 The group that believes the sky is falling and almost WANT the worst case scenarios

#2 The group that thinks this is being hyped way worse than it is, and wants to know WHY we have destroyed the economy across the world

Just what I am seeing from my Lil Log Cabin in the Backwoods of North Idaho where group #1 is Cheering the arrival of one Case in our 2 counties. I mean arrival too he brought it here and was isolated as soon as he arrived

Also, many many Americans are overweight, to the point of obese. This leads to hypertension, diabetes, COPD, and heart diseases. 67.9% of Americans are obese. I wonder what percentage of obese Americans are seriously affected by this Wuhan Virus.
