Well at least it is Friday. It has been a busy week with no signs of today being any different. At lease I was able to get my shave in with some of favorite items. The "Soap Destroyer" ate through the B&M Bay Rum soap whipping up a luxurious thick lather. Three passes and touch ups caught the baby with ease. I splashed on some Dominica Grand Bay Rum aftershave but decided to go for a little Krampert's as well. A bay rum triple. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

I've often considered that counting passes by the number of times the razor is drawn across the skin is more accurate than counting the times that lather is re-applied.

The better soaps will protect on that 2nd quick stroke, but diminish exponentially after that.

With an open edge you can splash on a little water after making a 'true single pass' and actually observe the water and soap being carved off similar to how water rolls in front of a straight on a hone.

In my test with the TARs dialed down and buffing there was no question in my mind that one pass was really more than that.

You can see that most Shaving Stars of the Internet do multiple passes on a single lather up.

I try to re-lather every time I make another stroke.

This is very interesting Mr. Cawtuh. I almost "qualified" for an example of what you're talkinabout this morning with my shave. While doing the first pass, I dipped the brush back into the soap to cover an area(all right, two areas)that I felt needed more soap. Do we call that 1/2 a pass?

Fresh from my commentary on Mr. Cawtuh's post about pass counts, I now go right to my shave itself. Again I think I soaked the brush a little too long OR didn't shake it out properly, as the first pass was too "moist" as I started off with it. I went along anyway, but felt I needed to do a quick re-load to cover areas I thought were too "moist". I asked Mr.. Cawtuh if that could be called "1/2 a pass". Come to think of it, the Central Texas soap I used always appears well-hydrated, thus I need to take more time shaking out the brush than blooming it(if that makes sense). Two passes(plus 1/2 if we agree on this "1/2 a pass" theory). Two nicks, one on each side of the upper lip(where I had 1 nick yesterday as we recall). This CTS soap had the Bentonite Clay in it(Greg Smith has since removed the clay from all soaps) and I more recently bought one sans clay. I have ALWAYS welcomed Clubman into my shave life, and it reminded me why this morning. I saved the back of my neck for some Clubman Talc. Quite Excellent due to the 2 nicks and excess brush blooming).

When one re-lathers part of the face to specifically address that area, Max Headroom rules as a partial pass.

There is great latitude in shaving real-estate area to qualify 1/2.
