Hi guys! I know what I am going to use for tomorrow's shave. It will be my largest and heaviest vintage straight razor, the 15/16 Wostenholm square point near wedge. I realize that some of you guys aren't into straights and may not have an understanding or actually have seen different grinds on a straight razor. So I decided to show you the difference between the near wedge and the full hollow grinds. Below, is the near wedge razor for tomorrow's shave and you can see the grind is shallow and there is just a small skinny edge at the end. Also, the blade is much thicker than the full hollow and therefore is primarily used to shave heavy stubble or beards 20200416_210604.jpg

Below, is one of my C-mon razors that has a full hollow ground. Here, the grind is very deep and the skinniest part of the blade is much higher than the near wedge. I know you can download a chart to compare the different grinds, but I believe it is cooler to see it in a photo or live. Thanks for allowing me to show you these two different grinds.

It's a shame you didn't experience that time Myles. I thought Ckearasil would be the 60's pimple eradicator of choice. Lol! Fortunately, I never had any acne problems.

Thanks Gary! I thought it would be nice to illustrate the grinds that I mention in my shaving posts because some people don't know.. You have done the same thing with explaining and showing the different razors. I feel that we are here to share our knowledge , experience and comraderie. Everyone here has valuable input and that's how I view things.

Lucky man you are! the older I have gotten, the less acne issues I've had to deal with thankfully. I remember my younger teenage years where I had alot more acne, but not as bad as other people that I know fortunately. I've seen some severe cystic acne cases. I'm thankful to not have it that bad, because if If I had to deal with alot of acne, you would not catch me wet shaving. But I have to say, since starting wet shaving, I have reduced breakouts and ingrown hairs.

Lol! I saw them play and lose in triple overtime to the Islanders in the playoffs in the early 80's.

    Razor - Soviet Consul
    Blade - [IMG]
Soap - Russian Shave Cream - "Apple Blossom"
Brush - Stirling Two Band Synthetic
    Post - Alum

Well, after taking yesterday off from shaving again, mostly due to just getting busy all day, I am back at it with one more shave with the Consul and Voskhod. And, I stayed with the Apple Blossom Russian shave cream and Stirling synthetic as well. I used the same technique on the lather as I did two nights ago and had just as good a result. This cream works quite well and definitely better than a couple of Russian creams I've tried. I'm glad it showed up from Korea! Three passes and the baby is in the house and I'm a very happy camper.

Looks like a cold rainy day tomorrow with a possible frost tomorrow night for the Lou. Gotta love the swings in the weather. Warming up Saturday....hopefully for quite awhile this time. Hope you have a great Friday and start to the weekend!

The shaving soaps that you use for wetshaving helps the skin stay healthy. I always had excellent skin, but wetshaving has brought it to another levrl. Wetshaving does eliminate or minimize in grown hairs.

absolutely sir.:)..even though gillette razors are mundane to most they all have different characteristics throughout their 97 active production years.modern de razors are based on the 1905 gillette double ring technology like it or not.single edge are based on the straight razor format..rigid blade ,shallow angle..
