    Arko Adjustable April

    April 17
    Razor - Soviet Ideal
    Blade - [IMG]
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - @Jayaruh #54
    Post - Alum

Time to pull out another Soviet adjustable. The "Ideal" comes out for a turn in April and I put in a fresh Voskhod. Might as well keep the flagship blade in the Russians. The Ideal is similar to the Consul, although it is more of a rip off of the Super Adjustable from Gillette than the Slim. Different head geometry and not as well made as the Consul, this razor has a bit of wobble and wonk to it, but nothing terrible like many other Russian razors. Gaps seem similar to the Consul, so more aggressive than Gillette. It's the head geometry that makes this one a bit of a handful as it will bite you more often than the Consul. One of my blade suppliers swore up and down it's the same razor as the Consul, just made in two different factories. While I can't prove he's right or wrong, I have trouble believing it's the same blueprint and design and they could make it so differently. This is Russian engineering from the past, though, so anything is possible.

I went back to Arko to keep going with that for April and chose the JR54 for the lather. Obviously no issues with either. The shave wasn't bad but, as I've mentioned, was a bit different than the Consul. A bit of roughness, though nothing over the top. Roughness may be too strong a word. How about - it just doesn't feel quite smooth. There, that does it. However, after three passes I do have the baby on board but I also have a hint of fire from the alum on my neck. We'll work on that in the next couple of days.

    Enjoy your weekend gentlemen!!

    2020-04-18, Saturday

Although it's Saturday I'm working tirelessly: washed, decalcified and conditioned three more knots and I'm about to restore three more handles!
And you? Couching in front of the TV...
    Shame on you!

Today in the Dolphic Thunder I perceived notes that I had never felt before: very tasty and an adequte lathering guaranteed me a very pleasant shave: two passes, retouches and Brad Pitt can't hold me a candle!

The photo is, again, disgusting, even if it's not Friday the 17th: yesterday's hangovers...

    Saturday morning:

    Razorock Plissoft 26mm Monster
    Super Speed/new Derby
    RVT Green Fields SS
    Prep ASB
    Aqua Velva Sport AS Splash
    Stirling Baker Street EdT

All week I’ve been enjoying stuff which I received from Mo - his Green Fields soap is such a delight. Its peppermint scent filled the bathroom, the lather worked up so rich with great slickness, and it gave me such a nice cooling sensation. The Prep beefed up the cooling and gave me plenty of moisturizing and postshave care, while the Aqua Velva Sport aftershave with its lovely scent finished the job. My wife loves the Baker Street on me so that’s an added bonus. The brand new Derby blade helped me get a brilliant BBS shave!

    Stay healthy and safe!
