good morning gents,blew the dust off a rare brit,the new/tech hybrid.this razor is the last hurrah of the new rfb,modernised with a safety bar instead of an open comb and factory plated in rhodium.this is the last of the machined brass base plate 3 piece razors.the flat bottomed techs and news were stamped brass,reducing manufacturing costs.hard to find and pricey,i was lucky to acquire this from a friend and avoid the $200+ u.s price tags these sets can command.there have been a lucky few who scored them as mislabeled brit flat bottoms.
..loaded the derby premium blade.these are fantastic blades and i have 100 on the way..smooth and sharp.loaded the new to me/just arrived a and e asian pear with the barrel badger.fantastic lather,and got a fabulously smooth bbs in 2+ passes.asian pear aftershave to finish...awesome.fabulous scent,post shave feel and performance.a and e are definitely in my top shelf rotation..

Good morning, fellas. I decided to go with a no-prep shave once again today and the results were very nice. A comfortable shave just didn't get as close on my neck as I wanted with the Astra SP, I'll try out a Gillette Silver Blue tomorrow to see how it goes.
Island Man is a great scent, reminds of the song "Blue Bayou" by the great Orbison.

The Professional Super Feather blade is a wicked edged tool.
Superior shave with extraordinary post-shave.
Keep your Sebum Gold, tallow Williams is still King O' The Hill.
Broke open a brand new, never-used bottle of the ORIGINAL Aqua Velva and splashed some on.

Final thought...I am I crazy, or has TSD been running unusually slow these past few days?

View attachment 223961 First shave with the newly arrived Open Comb V3. Out of the box it looks like a very well finished shaver. The only handle option on the OC at this point is the '2 piece Halo', which is a shorter, way heavier version of the one on the aluminum V2. Jeff yesterday already commented on the reduced head size, and it is really noticeable with the OC version as well. Full disclosure- I really like the look of Open Combs and this is no exception.
Did I hear @b1hart say it was Fougere week? Any excuse to bring out the Felce. Got a fine lather in this exceptional scent and had 3 nice passes. I respected the razor and gave it my full attention. It produced nicely- not overly smooth per se, but not an assassin on set downs. There is never a strain for 'negative pressure' or such as I would usually have to do with a really aggressive razor. Results were fine- no red, no overt irritation and I am quite smooth. It did take a little jawline work to get there though. More chances to play with it coming up.

This RR Hawk V3 is really growing on me. It’s just the right kind of heavy, feels great in hand, and with a Feather Super loaded delivers the shave goods consistently. This is my second complete shave with the razor, and unlike some other shave purchases, leaves me with no buyer’s remorse. It really is every bit the equivalent of AC razors going for three times the price of this one. I’m not sure how Italian Barber is able to deliver a 316L marine grade SS razor for $59.99 US, when the direct competitors are so much more expensive. This price is only slated to remain with this batch. The price will be increasing to $75-79 in the next production run.

I began my shave with my usual cold water rinse. I selected the Grooming Dept’s Unscented Donkey Milk Soap, and noticed when I opened the container that little granules of bentonite clay had formed throughout the soap. My @MrEE Hybrid Knotted Brush performed beautifully, despite the granules, and whipped up a nice, shiny, yogurty lather. The Hawk made short shrift of my whiskers in that first WTG pass with the hyper sharp Feather Super slicing things right down to the skin line. My second ATG pass easily put the baby to bed, leaving me with another effortless BBS. A cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Thayers Lavender WH, Fine Accoutrements Fresh Vetiver AS Splash, and finished with A&E Post-Shave Serum left me feeling smooth, clean, and refreshed!

I am dedicating this classic shave @myles wilson. He surprised me by gifting me this vintage cologne. I did some research and it dates from the late 40's to early 50's based on the name of the ship Recovery and the stopper. I will talk about the scent later in my report. I injected a brand new blade and it was much easier to do than when I had to put a blade into an empty razor. My trusty Rocky brush did its best to give me a nice lather, but Williams doesn't cooperate with the NY water so the lather was substandard but it was still slick enough for me to shave. I sometimes use Noxema cleansing cream in conjunction with the Williams, but decided against it because I wanted a truly classic shave. I have to say the first time that I used this razor with a new blade was a little rough because I had to learn a slightly different angle than I am used to with my DE's. Well, with 8 shaves with this razor, the 9th with a new blade was so much better! Two and a half passes gave me a BBS shave with no blood and no irritation. I have to say this is a real fine shaver. Normally, for my post shave, I splash the aftershave and then finish with the balm, but I will end this shave differently. Applied the Nivea aftershave balm and it really felt great. Now for a blast from the past and a little before my time, I dotted the cologne on my neck and cheekd and under my nose to get that once-in-a-lifetime experience of a vintage Old Spice cologne. The scent is similar to Canoe but more manly. In the recesses of my mind, the aftershave was more peppery than this cologne However, I was a young lad stealing my dad's Old Spice aftershave so it was so long ago. Anyway, the cologne is not overbearing and it has a nice clean scent. Again, thanks Myles for this splendid gift! I am truly blown away. That's a wrap guys! Enjoy your evening! Wednesday shave: Next up in the big brush focus is a comically large Simpson Polo 12 in best. This brush is huge both the knot and the handle, the upside is the workout you get building the lather. The tips are amazing soft but this is a very densely packed knot, which makes it a lather hog too. Today's razor is a Portland Razor Co Chimera, a western grind kami, very easy to maneuver. The lather was very runny but also nice and slick. The shave was excellent.

lol it happens... or atleast now it does. My favorite scent and soap. despite the fact that some sellers might price gouge online, I'm still a sucker for it. I'm like a kid in a candy store. I'm sure you are as well!

Don't want you to think I'm not around because I am. Just not with a razor in my hand tonight. Very long and tiring day and I crashed as soon as I walked in the door. Back up and around for a bit but I have another day off tomorrow so I'll shave then.

In the meantime, though, I suppose you've all seen the reports on how nature and the environment have changed since all us humans went indoors. Well, the same thing has now started to happen in St. Louis. For the first time in over a hundred years, the wild arches have started growing. Have a fantastic Wednesday!!!

New brush this morning....ordered 4/9, direct from the Simpson website (UK), delivered in DFW area 11 days later, for ~$25 US. This synthetic brush's price/performance ratio will be tough to beat, unless you're looking for something delivered quicker, or with a 'cooler' looking handle (which is me.....I'm probably going to transplant the knot). The T3 knot.....a beast at 28mm. FWIW, the Omega EVO is also marketed at 28mm, but the T3 is visibly bigger. I'll put some calipers on both when Amazon decides to ship batteries for my digital calipers, as every local store I've tried is sold out due to the current pandemic (and people panic purchasing hearing aid batts, sigh). The T3 28mm is packed very dense, lots of backbone. The Omega EVO is slightly softer out of the box. I believe part of that is the loft, the EVO having slightly more bristle length, but also because it's ever so slightly packed 'lighter'. Bristles between the two brushes....the T3 strands are just barely straighter, lighter in color, more white/grey. The EVO strands are more 'wavy', slightly more tinted true to a badger being 'tan/light brown' in color. A few days ago Clint rated the Simpson T3 as his second favorite synthetic, the EVO being his third. First was the Simpson Special Edition 'Duke 3'. I don't have that example yet, so can't compare. Between the T3 and the EVO.....it's close, really close, toss a coin close....as both are really nice, but I'm going to favor the EVO straight out of the box, for it's slightly less dense knot packing, which gives it less backbone, leading to a better 'splay' for me when face lathering. There is a small note in the Simpson box, mentioning 'Gently lather your face with paint brush strokes'. Me, when face lathering, I'm a swirler, and with the T3's slightly shorter loft, slightly more backbone, a swirling technique aerates the lather a little too much, making some of it go airborne. I use paint brush strokes for lather application when I bowl lather (which is me most of the time). One last point....the Omega EVO is twice the price, I was able to score it for $58 delivered, between a sale and a coupon.

On to today's shave.....This morning I did a bit of face lathering and bowl lathering. The T3 made an awesome CK-6 bowl lather, super dense, yogurty hydrating slick goodness. Face lathering (as mentioned) requires a little more pressure to splay the T3 knot, and aerates the lather 'airborne' a little too much. Painted brush strokes only after that test. First pass was with the Rex Ambassador on 5, loaded with a GSB on it's second use. Second pass I dialed the RA to 2, and really concentrated on an XTG stroke to get to DFS+ all over. Third pass was the other leg of the X, RA still on 2, buffing mainly the lower neck/jawline. BBS result today! Still had an enormous amount of lather, so on the face it went for a fourth time, but only while cleaning the tools....a quick rinse and healthy dose of PAA's Et Tu Aftershave & Cologne, and ready for a Tuesday. Et Tu, for those who aren't familiar, is a copy of the original Brut by Fabergé. A great aroma for sure, but unfortunately it isn't very long lasting (maybe my nose acclimates to it too quickly).

First post wouldn't load so I'll try this again. Site has been eratic lately it seems .
No shave again as my face is still tender around cheek and eye . Maybe tomorrow I will try again.
As some of you might remember me posting about the passing of my German shepherd Piper
back in January, today I got to lay her to rest . Was a beautiful day and the ground was soft enough to dig. We buried her under a beautiful tree in the back yard and may she now rest in Gods hands until we meet again. That was physically and mentally draining as I relived the emotions all over again.
Got called into work so I better get some zzzzz. I'll grab 2 hrs then the coffee will have to take over . Stay safe my friends!!

As some of you might remember me posting about the passing of my German shepherd Piper
back in January, today I got to lay her to rest . Was a beautiful day and the ground was soft enough to dig. I am dedicating this classic shave @myles wilson. He surprised me by gifting me this vintage cologne. I did some research and it dates from the late 40's to early 50's based on the name of the ship Recovery and the stopper. I will talk about the scent later in my report. I injected a brand new blade and it was much easier to do than when I had to put a blade into an empty razor. My trusty Rocky brush did its best to give me a nice lather, but Williams doesn't cooperate with the NY water so the lather was substandard but it was still slick enough for me to shave. I sometimes use Noxema cleansing cream in conjunction with the Williams, but decided against it because I wanted a truly classic shave. I have to say the first time that I used this razor with a new blade was a little rough because I had to learn a slightly different angle than I am used to with my DE's. Well, with 8 shaves with this razor, the 9th with a new blade was so much better! Two and a half passes gave me a BBS shave with no blood and no irritation. I have to say this is a real fine shaver. Normally, for my post shave, I splash the aftershave and then finish with the balm, but I will end this shave differently. Applied the Nivea aftershave balm and it really felt great. Now for a blast from the past and a little before my time, I dotted the cologne on my neck and cheekd and under my nose to get that once-in-a-lifetime experience of a vintage Old Spice cologne. The scent is similar to Canoe but more manly. In the recesses of my mind, the aftershave was more peppery than this cologne However, I was a young lad stealing my dad's Old Spice aftershave so it was so long ago. Anyway, the cologne is not overbearing and it has a nice clean scent. Again, thanks Myles for this splendid gift! I am truly blown away. That's a wrap guys! Enjoy your evening! Wednesday shave: Next up in the big brush focus is a comically large Simpson Polo 12 in best. This brush is huge both the knot and the handle, the upside is the workout you get building the lather. The tips are amazing soft but this is a very densely packed knot, which makes it a lather hog too. Today's razor is a Portland Razor Co Chimera, a western grind kami, very easy to maneuver. The lather was very runny but also nice and slick. The shave was excellent.

The Polo handles are pretty amazing, Keith. Second only to the 59. I just wish the knots weren't so HUGE!
