Sounds like a lot of work that’ll be all the more worth it when the vines grow in. My parents did much the same with a chain link fence and some bamboo. And now, it’s so nice to look at, but it’s everywhere!!! Awesomely spectacular image Jim! Glad the taking of the Hawk is going well. Y’all and this SBST brand. I’m feeling light headed again....
April 27th - SOTD - Menthol Monday Good morning guys! Straight Razor Shave # 162 Wolstenholm 5/8 Square Point Stirling Boar Brush Proraso Green SS and AS Nivea ASB not pictured. Today is Menthol Monday and this shave is dedicated to James @jtface because he is branching out into straightshaving and will be honing with lapping films. It is appropriate for me to pick this Wosty because it is one of the razors that I started my honing journey with lapping films. This will be my 34th shave after honing this razor without refreshing it. Ok, it's enough of my jabbering so let me continue with my report. The Stirling brush gave me a wonderful lather, but I had to reload because I was trying to do experiment with more water from the start. The lather was just too wet so I added more soap to get the lather I wanted. The menthol hit really awakened me especially on the second pass. On a 42 hr growth, this razor really did a nice job by giving my an IBSS++/VBBS with only 2 passes. No irritation was present, but did get a weep on my lower right neck. No biggie because I just gave it couple of cold water splashes and by the second pass it vanished. Gave myself a double hit of the aftershave and then followed with Nivea to end this nice, cooling and pleasant shave. Have a nice day guys and I will try to stay out of trouble! Stay safe and be well!
Wonderful shave Paul! I just love it when your excitement comes across through your comments on a glorious effort.
Wonderful looking set up, Jim--that C-MON brush looks like it was made for the Mallard soap! You'll get that Hawk squared away and marching in step in no time
That is an intriguing list of ingredients. Love that the bay leaf is listed first, and that the clove oil is 2nd to last. The patchouli, sage, and eucalyptus are ingredients that I don't normally think of when I hear bay rum, but sound like they'd play very well with it
Thank you Joe..y'know, YOU staaated this! Your letter grades. So hard to "grade" Sir Hare among my soaps, but it's a great one all right.
Awesome shave, Paul! Looks like that Y formation technique you're using on your neck is has become a game changer for you
It really has, Tim. I won't bring up the fact that @wristwatchb motivated me to try it, as that's what he does. But as I say, I won't bring that up.
April 27th Saponificio Varesino - Felce Aromatica SS & ASB Simpson Trafalgar T3 Filarmonica Doble Temple 13 6/8 Thayers WH - Lavender Continuing my Fougère focus, still a handful to go..... First thing one must do with SV's Felce Aromatica is stuff your nose in the container, and inhale for days. Aaaahhhh. Such a wonderful fragrance. Thoroughly wet the T3, proceed to overloading the synthetic for the aroma and goodness that follows. SV's 4.3 formulation explodes immediately into a lather, and slowly builds to super thick, slick, peaky & luxurious bliss as you add water. Paints and swirls on so nicely. Wanted to match up the Italian soap with an unmatching Spanish razor, so dug out the hair scaringly sharp Filarmonica DT 13. Another full hollow thin grind, it sings as it crosses strop or skin. Only once all hair is below the skin line does it quiet down while shaving. 3 full passes, with the last being the baby chaser. Some skin stretching, facial contortions, and off angle buffing on the lower right neck and jawline.....caught the little guy. Slight irritation from one misguided angle, but no worries....an application of Thayer's WH followed with SV's matching Felce Aromatica aftershave balm, and all is refreshed and soothed. Hope everyone has a Magnificent Monday!
Yes...especially when it is positive-minded imitation. What do I mean by that. My sister is one who never likes to be "left out of the crowd" when it comes to style. A year ago, her laugh became one of sarcasm/cynicism. Drove me crazy. Now she is back to a more normal laugh. My reaction(although I never said this to her)-"I guess they don't laugh that way anymore"
Thats what I'm shooting for..total privacy as our pool is by the fence . A couple speed bumps but you came out on top Joe!!!
For a minute there Blair I thought I was reading a advertisement for shaving products ! Great report.
Fantastic shave Blair! I love the Italian tribute but the Filarmonica razors were made in Spain. Ciao!
