Don't encourage him too much Joe, he made such a blooming mess the last time.

That sounds like something Charlie Dangerpants @wristwatchb would have said after cherry bombing the school commodes.

I do think you picked a suitable candidate.

Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve or Blanton are my goto regular bourbons. Tonight I had about a fingers worth of Pappy! Great way to decompress!

You'd think on a day off I'd get to spend my leisure time hanging out here and stirring up trouble, just to give Charlie @wristwatchb a break. But, alas, had things to do around the house that kept me pretty much tied down. Arrived at shave time tired but still having enjoyed a day off.

Back to the Fatboy with Rapira SS. Arko with the 30DC LE from @jtspartan for the win on the lather. Three passes of smooth goodness and the baby is in the house. I even added just a touch of the Mighty Veg just to feel like a true gentleman for the evening. Hope your Monday went well and let's make Tuesday a winner!

Despite a somewhat hyperbolic blood loss report, I enjoyed your shave summary. Great report!

Don’t over think stropping and honing. With the success you are already having controlling angle, motion and pressure for open edged shaving across an uneven flexible surface (and the red oozing consequences), doing the same across a taught strop or flat rigid surface.....won’t be a mountaintop ascent. Much of the muscle memory is the same, with some learned nuances. Even better is that you won’t have to learn how to strop or hone using a mirror.

Very nice Evan! Love the Proraso menthol themed green.

One thing that you might try, works if the mishap didn’t scab....the next day....mark the area by touching the shave cream. Remember the stroke direction that caused the earlier mishap. Shave the marked shave cream area at 90 degrees to the stroke that created it, and with half your usual pressure, barely skimming only hoping for a CCS/light DFS.

Gents, I hope you both had a good evening. Looks like we all had the same idea. I enjoyed some Russell's Reserve Single Barrel neat. Just one. It's a bit hot.

Jeff, the closest I've come to sampling Pappy has been Weller 12 and Blanton's, and that's a stretch. We visited the Buffalo Trace distillery a few years ago and had just finished one of their tours. I signed up for another tour that involved climbing to the top of a still. My Bride wasn't interested (doesn't care for heights or open grating), so Freddie Johnson, our first tour guide, took her on a special tour to see the Pappy barrels. According to bourbon lore, few people tour this part of the distillery, and legend has it that you walk right past an open barrel full of NOS Gillette Toggles in the warehouse.

If you ever get a chance to visit Buffalo Trace, make sure you take one of Freddie's tours. He has plenty to say about Pappy Van Winkle. He's a very interesting man, and he was recently inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame.

Great report as always, Neal! Really liking the looks of that Fatboy as well. Perhaps some day I'll muster up the courage to try the Veg... fear of rejection and all :happy102:

Some others have fallen off the edge of the Earth like mrchick (Brian) and frijolero (Robert). Brian did check in not too long ago, but Robert has been on other threads in this Forum so I am guessing someone ticked him off or maybe he thought he doesn't feel the need to be on this thread any longer. Oh, Brian has been on other threads so he probably was ticked or doesn't feel the need for this thread as well. It's all good. I have only been on this thread for a year and a half and have seen people come and go for whatever reason. I am sure they would be welcomed back into the fold.
