That may also be true. Seriously, we are not locked into this thread and there are many good reasons why people leave and don't come back. I hope it wasn't anything I said! Lol!

 

most are relaxed here..i am here ,not so much anymore for the learning aspect as i still learn things and can shave pretty well these days,but it is home for me..i don't socialize on the web much but here.one or 2 closed gillette groups on facebook,sometimes..and then i work..i think some would like to see this as a stricter classroom type setting,the busy ness frustrates them,not sure.others learn the skill needed and move on..i view it as a place where i.ve been accepted.if that changed i would move on..,maybe..

 

I agree with all your points! Let's face it most of us have been shaving more than 30 yrs so we knew how to shave before we landed here. However, we acquired knowledge on how to efficiently shave by interacting on this thread. True, it's not brain surgery, but this thread is important to keep us up to date on shaving paraphernalia, the technical nuances of any razor, etc. Most assuredly, the comraderie is also important.

 

yes sir,i shaved poorly with carts for 35 years..but i did learn proper DE shaving on this thread..i muddled through DE for a year or so on TSD before joining the 30 DC..i am most grateful for that..there have been many others who have successfully learned to love shaving from here as well..maybe a view through rose colored glasses type statement but, if we can help a few....and yes the soap collection grows..,have a fine evening..

Life does indeed happen. We've had a rather large number of members come and go and, in some cases come back and then go again, only to come back and.....sometimes they don't. Given the fact we passed 8000 posts with three days to go I'm not too worried about the thread itself. And a few of the guys who are no longer around much are still in contact in other ways. I'm truly thankful for everyone here who has made this a more or less permanent home, even through a pandemic. And, I'm thankful for those who come and go when they have the chance. We're all just shaving fanatics who love to talk and help others get their shave on.

 

Wow, that razor looks factory fresh!

Once the weather warms up I will bring out my bottle of Eau Sauvage, a summer favorite of mine.

If I can do it, anyone can do it. Go slow, don't do it like you see in the movies, it is not a race. Keep razor flat, do not press down and keep the strop taught. There should be just a little give, don't try to pull the hook out of the wall. Trust us, it is the easiest part of straight razor shaving.

You know you have a sharp edge when it cleanly takes any protruding from the surface of your skin.

 

Today's mighty mini brush was made for me by Rudy Vey. It is made of very old Bog Oak and it sports a Shavemac D01 flat top. It took many years before I started to like this razor, it is finally opening up some.

Inspired by @Primotenore enjoying his vintage soaps I decided to go with a vintage puck of Old Spice in an Old Spice mug. While the scent is long gone the performance is amazing, if only the would bring this back with the original formula and original scent.

Today's razor is a plane Jayne Brian Brown. A truly subdued looking razor with it is grey scales and only distinguishing feature a small barber's notch. I enjoy the austere ascetics of this razor, this dog will hunt. An excellent shave today.

Things are starting to return to normal here so to ensure social distancing I doused my self with Montale Aoud Cuir d'Arabie. If you want a laugh read the reviews on base notes.
