Wonderful picture and shave report Jason. Did you set the knot in the brush with epoxy? Just wondering if you could reset the knot with a spacer underneath.

    Thank you, Clint.
I set virtually all of my knots now with this product:

While not an epoxy, not kicks and giggles getting them out, either. I think I will end up leaving this one 'as is' and setting the other one as shallow as I can get it. It is listed at 44mm for loft, so it was my own darn fault.

thank you Tim,the handle i can switch it out.most of my techs are the same,my brit ones ,just in different sets.for the focus i have been using them out of the case as they were.if i was just having a brit tech shave i would grab an uncased one and put a solid handle on it as i have already tested and found my favorite set up.hence the new cigar box built.i use the really mint ones very little to preserve them but they still get used,or they get moved on.as for weighting the handles i have refrained as most mods are are irreversible and i like the set to retain its originality.kind of like bolting the cool mag wheels on the new car the day after it rolls off the lot..sorry for the ramble..:)

    La Savonnière du Moulin~~Simpson CH2 Synthetic~~1908 Gillette/Personna 74~~SMN Nostalgia
Took a one day hiatus from my focus soap and aftershave
to try out two new products in my den:
    1) A vintage bottle of Santa Maria Novella Nostalgia.
    2) La Savonnière du Moulin shave soap.
While the packaging of the French soap is cute, it is anything but practical.
I had to literally remove all of the staples from the container just to remove the puck.
As you can see, I used my box grater to grate the soap and press it into my favorite aftermarket container.
Whimsically, I removed the top of the original container; again needing needle-nose pliers to remove the staples,
and adhered it to the top of my replacement container.
The soap itself, is a easy soap to lather, much easier than pronouncing its list of ingredients:
Ingredients: Potassium, Palmate, Sodium Palmate, Potassium palm, Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Aqua, Palm Kernal Acid, Sodium chloride, pentasodium penetate, tetrasodium etidronate, lacta asinus, kaolin, parfum, linalool, limonene, geraniol, courmarin, hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene, carboxaldehyde, butylphenyl, methylpropional, citronellol, evernia prunastri (oakmoss) extract, vitis vinifera, honey, CI 7789
Normally, I wouldn't purchase such a chemistry set, but I have heard many good things and read some good reviews,
sooooo, when I saw that Maggards had it back in stock, I pulled the trigger.
The CH2 synthetic tore into the semi-hard soap (not even close to a triple-milled soap, btw.)
and in my Aesop SS lathering bowl, developed some lovely lather.
I pushed the H2O to the limit and was rewarded with a very slick and protective lather.
The scent is outdoorsy, but in a soapy/fresh air sense...Dove soap? Ivory? Subtle and unobtrusive.
Too lazy to change razors, so back up to bat was the Gillette Old Type.
Used the same Personna 74 blade as well.
    Great shave with no issues.
Some Dickinson's Witch Hazel, followed by a very small drop of Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm,
and finished with some vintage Nostalgia. Wow. Great juice.

Congrats on the La Savonniere du Moulin soap. I have found it to last a fairly long time.

Gee, it’s reassuring, Jason, to know that others have suffered like me. Honestly, I thought I was somewhat unusual in being nicked by blade tabs.
