Sounds like a very cool project, Evan. I know I’ll buy one of your razors! Others on here I know will feel the same way. You can plan on recouping a few quid, anyway.

Thanks, Gary. The handle was new a month or two ago. I made a few two tone resin ones. I did post them on the brushmakers thread.

I know you are Canadian so it wouldn't be an important event to you, but the NY Mets won their first World Series in 1969. At the time, I was 14 and I was overjoyed to say the least.

I grew up a baseball fan, Joe, and do know the importance of the ‘69 Mets.

Sharpening common items on concreate is something you do when adults aren't looking. While Kathy sounds like fun, she also sounds like an adult. I recommend you conceal your improvised tool/weapon-making from her. This is usually implied with a dare, but I'll mentioned it now as it seems you might not know the rules as well as I thought. Is "Danger" an honorary title? :happy102: Because such a name cannot be earned without some level of concealment.

:) Thanks Keith! I've been wanting to make this jump for a long time. I have a small stock of tool steel for making parts that will require heat treatment. Might as well try a razor first. The muzzle brake for my rifle will be even harder.

Thanks Gary! I'm a little worried, but I find these projects go better when I commit myself by telling people what I'm about to do.

    Thanks Jim!

    Thanks Joe!

Thanks Patrick! This forge has a removable burner I'm hoping I can connect to a foundry as well. I have a 2 year supply of aluminum cans I need to recycle. Can I add aluminum casting to my list?

Thanks Tim! All the comments sure make this adventure fun. I need to clarify. I am starting with an annealed 1095 knife blank. I'll use my CNC machine to cut the outline and rough cut the blade. Then I will precision lathe mill and heat treat the steel before grinding. The oven used to heat treat steel is called a forge, but I won't be hammer forging this time. That's a little much to bite off on my first try.

Gorgeous photo, Joseph--that Friodur is beautiful! :D

I think I'll swashbuckle that idea of lathering first, then prepping the blade, then relathering when I begin my straight shaving this summer--seems like a smart and easy way to get one's face ultra-prepped for a shave.
