  1. Looks great Evan.
  2. Wonderful set up and photo, Joe--it looks like it had everything in the making for a special Saturday shave! Sorry to hear the blade was not up to your sharpness standards. I'm sure the lapping film will get that very beautiful Ralph Aust back into shave shape in no time, though ;)

  4. That is going to be so cool!

I really could have used the G-code reading last night; my son woke me up at 2:00 am, and I didn't fall back asleep until around 5-ish. Think I'll wake him up in the wee hours tonight and nudge him with my heels every 10 or 15 minutes. Turnabout is fair play ;)
  5. I forgot about the dirty hippie girl apartment--awesome! :happy102:
  6. Thanks Tim! I bought this razor off EBay last year from a guy who had it for a few years and hardly used it. His friend honed it, so it was shave ready when I got it. I had noticed part of the edge looked 'shinier' and contacted the seller. He told me that his friend honed it, but didn't know about why there was an anomaly on the blade. It gave me good shaves, but I noticed over several shaves that it was starting to lose is edge. I didn't think that it would quickly deteriorate. It's ok. I will put a nice edge on it tomorrow or Monday. Afterwards, I will do a partial headshave with it to assess the hone job.
  7. The CAD software reports the bevel at 15.5 degrees. :)
  8. May 2--In the Mix/Mix-It-Up-May
    Shavette Shave #57

    Gear
    • Razor: Max Headroom Focus R21 Shavette
    • Blade: Bic Chromium (1)--this was my “In the Mix” item for today, and the last of the Bic’s. It’s a sharp razor, so it pays to take care on the set downs.
    • Brush: Semogue Boar
    • Soap: Stirling Glastonbury on Fire--my “Mixed up May” choice was a half-and-half mix of Glastonbury and Texas on Fire. It didn’t knock my socks off with awesomeness, but it didn’t offend my tender sensibilities either. Decent, but yesterday was better.
    • Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops
    • AS: Clubman Original
    • Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented

    The Shave
An afternoon shave for today, and since I want to put the Linuxguile Lupo through its paces tomorrow, I opted for a 2 pass, no touch up shave today--WTG and XTG

First I should thank Jim @jluc for the brilliant idea of using an iced scuttle to keep the chilled lather chilled. I do not have a scuttle, but I did nest the salsa bowl I use to lather my shave soap into a 2nd salsa bowl filled with ice and water. Makes a world of difference! If anything, the lather seemed to get cooler with each pass. That process will certainly be repeated.

I uncharacteristically drew blood on my WTG pass--a slight little bump that wasn’t there before is most definitely not there now. It protested, but settled down and eventually walked away by the end of the shave. Again, styptic stays on the sidelines.

The second pass was much less interesting--no drama, and a CCS with no irritation except where the weeper was when I introduced it to the Clubman Original. I didn’t think anything could protest more vehemently against the application of Clubman than Jason @jtspartan . For a moment it looked like there’d be a new sheriff in town, but 5 seconds later all was right with the world, and Jason’s title still stands ;)

    It’s been a great May 2nd--enjoy what’s left of yours, everyone! :D

    57 down, 43 to go!
  9. Aha! This completely explains everything now. A movie come to life, where unsuspecting brain compromised whisker filleting keyboarders unsuspectingly hit with bolts of electrons all around the planet. They knew not what hit them, poor souls, other than being drawn to watch a collective countdown collaboration of reverently polished steel, transformed into a mere ‘Add to Cart’ click. Cards be damned, thoughts only of how illustrious the engineering and craftsmanship might spell bind as the prize appears in a time delayed unboxing. Rumors were the nationwide storm started in PA, stretched to TX, but kept spreading into CO, with the last wide felt tremors ending with a relapse in GA.

Personally, I have no recollection of the event, only vague, cloudy flashing glimpses of flying fingers, mirrored steel, and random refreshed visualized bits of hopes and text.

Later, I remember being suddenly awake, the jazzed vibrational sting like a caffeine slap...then a bzzzz, bzzzz, followed by a familiar voice....

‘You’ve Got Mail’. OC confirmed @12:01pm CST.

Evan, dude....that is so cool. :signs107:

Wow, some awesome work, can’t wait to see it finished. Where do I send my left arm? I’ll figure out how to shave with just one....
