    Thank you, Gary! :D

I agree, Gillette makes some incredible blades even if these turn out to be sub-par for me. But still, I like to treat my blades like I try to treat people--give 'em a few chances to put their best foot forward before coming to any conclusions--the Super Thins will get their day again ;)

    2020 Shavette Focus Shaves # 36 & 37

Apologies for not keeping up this week. It turned out to be busy as I completed a project that had been on the back burner for awhile.

I completed two more shaves with the Parker SRX. Both were two-passers and experimental in that I'm trying some new strokes to smooth out my chin. I am getting pretty good results with about half the strokes I was taking at the beginning of my focus. I paid this morning with a couple of minor weepers as I tried some XTG and ATG strokes. I'm beginning to see that it takes four perfectly executed passes to have a completely smooth and blood-free chin: WTG, ATG, and XTG in both directions. Anything short of that leaves some wiry whiskers. Since I'm generally a two-pass shaver, the additional two passes on my chin are considered touch ups.

I've been using Jeeves of Hudson Street Blood on Steel aftershave for the past few days. This was part of an LE soap and aftershave set from the 2018 meetup. I like the long-lasting scent and skin feel. It is based on Herod Parfums de Marly. According to the Jeeve's website, top notes are pepper & cinnamon; middle notes are labdanum, incense, tobacco leaf & osmanthus; and base notes are musk, Iso E Super, vetiver, cedar, vanilla & nagarmotha. I don't even know what many of these notes are, but I like that it is a dark, sweet, spicy scent. One splash is all you need to last most of the day. I have a mostly full bottle, so it will take a while to work through it...and even longer considering I can't wear scented products while we're in Minnesota.

I hope you all have had a great day!

That is a busy scent profile, and I don't know half of those notes either, but it still sounds wonderful!

Ok, nice shavette shave, but I need to share a few things Tim. I wouldn't have used the other half of the bad blade for today's shave. I would have tossed it out and use another DE blade of the same brand to split it in half. I have also have had the same problem with my Semogue badger. It still is a lather hog, so I use light paint strokes to minimize the lather flowing towards the handle. I also turn the brush sideways to roll off the excess lather by the handle on my face and continue to paint it. Finally, I will squeeze the brush to release the lather that is deep within the brush. Bottom-line: there isn't anythimg wrong with our lathering techniques. It is just the property of the brush that causes the lather to flow toward the handle.

I have always said that honing straights with lapping films is the way to go because it isn't expensive and it is idiot proof.

Great job honing and terrific shave, James!
There's that word "need" again. Rarely applies to anything we do here.

If I can do it, it's idiot proof. Your point reasoning is sound!

I may have to make them out of anodized aluminum. I have lots of that laying around and we don't see many scales made out of aluminum. Of course, anodizing is harder than hardened steel so I'll have to figure that out. Don't want the scales marking the blade.

Interesting about the brushes. Is that a characteristic of badger brushes in general, or just the particular brushes that we have?
