Next up was my first lock down haircut: #4 on the back and sides and scissors over comb to trim up the top and blend everything together. My Bride did a terrific job, considering she wasn't exactly working with George T. Clooney. It feels great to lose three months of scruff on top. We set up a makeshift barber shop in the unfinished part of our basement, and I was only told to "be quiet" three times. The only things missing were the free coffee and gun magazines in the waiting area, and the Butterscotch Dum Dum for being a good boy.

The Shave
The plan was a 3 pass shave (WTG, XTG, ATG), but life had other things in store for me. The Treet New Steel blade did not shave well. Very tuggy! I went for the shallowest angle I could, and it helped, but not by much. In all fairness, this could be a bad blade. There is an iridescence to it like what you get when you take steel to a flame for a while, and parts of the blade do look darker than others. I almost thought I got one of the Black Beauties, but alas… not the case. Sadly, the photo doesn't catch that oiled water iridescence nor does it accurately show the darker discoloration. I hope I just got a dud blade...

Tuggy 1st pass (WTG) that reduced very little.

Tuggy 2nd pass (WTG) that reduced very little. There was no way on earth I was going to go XTG or ATG when there was still a good bit of stubble left over, and the 1st pass felt as rough as it did.

Tuggy 3rd pass (XTG) finally got my cheeks and parts of my neck decent, but I didn’t feel like trying any harder. Not to mention the fact that somewhere in the middle of pass 2, my 2 year old son was throwing a Guinness World Record temper tantrum, rolling around on the floor, kicking, flailing, and shrieking--like throwing salt and iron filings on a demon. It was impressive, and leaves one in awe to see a master truly absorbed in his work. Even so, I’d had enough of that shave by then.

CCS (barely) on parts of me, but as always, the chin led the resistance, and much of my face followed. No irritation that I can detect. Frankly, I'm surprised at that.

The Semogue boar and chilled Iced Pineapple lather were the best part of the shave. That and watching my son suddenly get bored with the tantrum and help me clean up my gear--definitely an odd shave

It's expected to Treet yourself to a fine shave, but I am not going to give you an entire Treetise on what you should've done. Sometimes, it is better to reTreet (pun on inferences to change the blade or back off for another day) before moving forward. However, nice gear and pic Tim!

Another shave with the 1918 Gillette and Sputnik. Still plenty smooth and definitely sharp enough to do the job. As I mentioned yesterday, Sputnik is a really nice teflon coated blade that tries to be a Voskhod. It definitely works for three shaves. I do have a tuck of old time Sputnik's but haven't opened them. Maybe I should do that just to try one. Might be interesting. I'll think about it.

For the lather it was Stirling Iced Coffee for MENTHOL MONDAY!! Haven't done one of those in awhile. I just used the nice Stirling synthetic brush. No need to get fancy. That Iced Coffee scent and Stirling lather is all the fancy you need!

Big full hollow week begins, well it started on Tuesday. First up is a Filarmonica 13, a very thin grind 7/8 razor. The 14 are more famous and much bigger $$$. The grind is thin enough that I worry that if I bought a 14 it would flex, so this is just the right balance. She does take and hold a fantastic edge and despite having some shaves on the edge is still smooth and sharp.

I hated the original scales on this razor so I had Kevin @HolyRollah rescale it for me. No more flimsy plastic scales, now this razor is styling'. The shave was excellent and the donut of death is growing in this tub of B&M.

I read some where that opera greats, especially tenors use Dior Fahrenheit.... but it did not work for me, it still sounds like I am screeching when I sing . Maybe I need the vintage juice ?

I will keep moving on for Mix it Up May. Up for the next few days is the Occam's Safety Razor with the wild plate. Trying to keep up with @jluc , I paired the Simpson CH2 with The Dead Sea. Somehow my color coordination falls short of Jim's. I guess that is understandable since he is the master. The Soap Destroyer did a wonderful job loading and lathering The Dead Sea. I just love the scent of the soap. Three passes and touch ups ended with a BBS shave but I managed to a good nick on my left neck. Neither the alum or styptic pencil have stopped the flow. Oh well, I hope that is not an indication for the rest of the day. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

Nice shave this morning. This was my first shave where I had to work with a small amount of soap , but I recalled seeing a video where the guy also had a small amount, and he was able to work it into a large lather by his fast brush work. I'm nowhere near as fast as he is, but I, to, got the large lather. My brush looked like an ice-cream cone when done loading. I liked THAT, . I've always said that the Stoylin "li'l brudder" may be little in name and size, but the thing really packs a wallup of soap onto it. The soap is from Phoenix A.A. and is one of their Planet soaps, but I don't know which one. The shave action went real well. 2 passes, great coverage from each. No cuts(that's N and a big fat donut-O). Stoylin Unscented Splash to finish, which it did nicely.Happy shaver here...Top of the World Excellent.

Well, the long-awaited day has finally arrived.
Tom's DE-Vise arrived last evening and it was all I could do to not try it out.
I used patience and with 4-day's growth, performed my inaugural shave this morning.
First, let me show you some pictures of the razor:

In this last shot, you can see the blade exposure.
(You will also notice, that at this point, I had not "seated" the blade properly)
Also notice that there is no safety guard below the blade.
For those interested, Tom first approached me with this idea, after I made a post climbing that blade "gap"
made NO difference in a shave. After all, we don't shave with the gap, we shave with the edge of the blade.
What we really have here is a hybrid of a DE razor and a Shavette.
Therefore, I have re-named this razor...a DE-Vette.
With respect to the creator, going forward, all references to this razor will use this newly dubbed title.
But...how does it shave?
I did have a challenge getting the blade aligned. As Tom told me, the tolerances are extremely tight.
However, once I figured out how to keep the blade in the slot and get the top cap to "accept" the
raised bar of the base cap, the handle would then screw in completely.
No issues of uneven blade exposure.
Now to the lather. I'll keep this brief, because the focus of this post is the DE-Vette.
First time with the SMN Crema da Barba.
Here's the lather I created:

I was careful to assure that I had a very slick base for the shave.
First pass, WTG, sideburns to jawline (stretched skin) was just like using my Feather AC.
I kept the angle shallow and the blade obliterated the hair.
A word on the handle.
It's smooth and Tom eschewed knurling. Now, this was a slip issue, so I used some alum to
to assist in the grip. I could ill afford to lose my grip on this in the middle of a pass.
Continued my WTG on the neck and got two small weepers at the base.
Now, this was clearly user error as I failed to maintain the shallow angle at the bottom of the pass.
Side note: THIS is a perfect example when a SB would come into play.
Mustache area and chin area were next. I moved slowly and carefully. No issues.
After the first pass, I could have quit and called it a DFS+++, but I re-lathered for an ATG pass.
No issues, no more weepers.
Under the nose is always a challenge, with ANY razor, and the DE-Vette is no exception.
It's quite awkward to get a shallow angle AND get the razor-edge right underneath the nose,
WITHOUT scraping. I did manage to "scrape" a bit and the alum let me know about it.
Called it quits after two passes and my face is as smooth as it ever gets. Maybe smoother,
because of the 4 day growth.
Took a couple of drops of SMN Tobacco Toscano and mixed it into a small amount of
Stirling Unscented Glacial ASB for a really wonderful finish.
First impressions.
We all know what a talented machinist and designer Tom is and he has created
a not only gorgeous razor, but a razor that functions perfectly.
Mos def© NOT a beginner's tool, but a unique and solid razor.
I am very fortunate and grateful to @twhite for this opportunity and to own a one-of-a-kind creation.
In the very-near future, I will be hosting a pass-around for those interested in trying it.
I will not be taking names or creating a list at this point so please wait for an official thread.

Welcome to M-Bombed (6 drops) Tabac Tuesday. As promised, I returned to my recently acquired Ronson, but did not use the stacked DE blades. The nipper I use for my Gibbs razors doesn’t provide a square nip, but rather a circular one which isn’t wide enough for the Ronson. I have a new nipper arriving Saturday that should solve the problem. But today’s shave was with a fresh Proline Injector.

I’m really growing to like this little razor. It provides beautiful BBS dome shaves. That is my threshold for any razor I shave with. It needs to perform for both mug and noggin. And this little beauty does in spades! I have, after a recent den reduction 59 razors with one (Blackland Tradere) on order. Every one of these meets my shaving criteria. If not, they’re gone!

The Ronson is right up there with my Shake Sharps as one of my favorite vintage SEs. I really don’t need to use DE blades in this razor, as the Injector performs excellently. I’m just curious to compare the Ronson to the Shake Sharp with stacked DE blades. That shave won’t take place until the weekend when the proper nipper arrives.

This morning’s shave couldn’t have gone better. I just love shaving with vintage razors. And the Ronson is a pip! It’s truly a joy to shave with. The Jayaruh Custom Boar #372 whipped up a prodigious cooling lather which the little Ronson swept away, taking with it most of the accumulated whiskers in that first WTG pass. The second ATG pass left me with that velveteen feeling only a stellar BBS provides. And best of all, the alum check revealed no heat which the Cryogen AS splash confirmed. I feel cool, smooth and refreshed!

PREP: Iced cold water rinse
BRUSH: Jayaruh Custom Boar #372
SOAP: Tabac salted with 6 drops of M-Bomb

Another good shave with the Jaws and Feather this morning. Nice lather, 3 easy passes, a little jawline buffing and I'm quite smooth. I really enjoyed the Feather blade these past few days. I need to get them in use more often for sure. I think this knot is starting to soften a bit as well- that's a good thing, it is still the scratchiest one in the den.
