Beautiful pic and interesting review of the new baseplate! Sounds like it shaves like my Seki AS-D2. It’s a terrific shaver as long as the correct very narrow angle is maintained. Deviate from it and it also stops shaving, which is the source of so many gripes about this great razor.
Thank you, Jeff! I kinda got caught up in the internet writings that large gaps and aggressive feel were needed to get a close shave. Misinformation as far as I'm concerned. As long as as the razor is designed to allow the blade to contact skin they'll all produce the same results.
May 14, 2020 Occam’s Safety Razor Feather Romera Olivewood Synthetic La Toja Shave Stick Fine Italian Citrus Aftershave In my continuing effort to mix things up, I pulled out my Romera Olivewood Synthetic and La Toja shave stick. Both of these are packed away in my travel bag since both just flat work for me. I had always wanted to try La Toja and picked up several shave sticks and some cream while in Spain last summer. I find the lather to be very slick and the post shave feel is fantastic. Three passes and touch ups ended in a drama free BBS shave. Off to my office this morning and then to a client site this afternoon. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.
May 14th Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements - CK-6 SS, ASB Star Jelly, AS/C -Doppelgänger Grey Label (Homage to Creed's Aventus) Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic J3Customs Kamisori Busy day today, short and sweet report. 2 passes with neck touch ups: very nice DFS+. Everything worked awesome, great lather, nice smooth sharp and quiet shaving blade, incredible after face feel with PAA's after shave balm called Star Jelly, followed with the matching aftershave and cologne. Never owned or tested Creed's Aventus, but if it's anything like the dupe from PAA, it's got to be awesome. Lasts all day, absolutely wifey approved. I'll simplify the 5 minute page read of the history/description from PAA's site with their graphic: Hope everyone has a Fantastic Thursday!
@Primotenore Not really! I’m only 4 yrs into this go-round, but was 41 into the first! She’s definitely worth it! SWMBO #1 provided the in depth training through 3 sons and a daughter. #2 claims I still require some final polish, but as Charlie (@wristwatchb) observed, we’re all works in progress. There’s a tradition of father to son advice in my family that I received and passed on to my sons prior to their nuptials. My grandfather passed it on to my father in 1938, and he to me in 1971. It’s really quite simple, my dad said. Marital harmony is a simple choice on the groom’s part given he pulls his weight in the provision dept. It comes down to a simple choice. He looked me in the eye, as I did to my sons and asked? “Do you want to be right or do you want to be married?”
Great photo and staging, Blair! Glad your shave went so well! May I ask a question? Does a Kamisori have a one way shaving edge bevel? Pardon my ignorance of all things exposed edge!
Great photo and shave report, Cliff! I’m going to have to pull out my Occam’s at some point in the near future, but I’m just having so much fun with my vintage razors, particularly my Ronson!
Wonderful setup and photo, Evan! 8 year olds: keeping the world honest, one tattle at a time--can't tell you how many times I've come home with an 8 year old only to have said child reveal some sordid detail of the drive home to my wife (43 MPH in a 40 MPH zone, didn't signal left before making a left turn, buckled my seat belt after turning the car on...etc)
Thanks for that, Joseph...He comes right to the point with his explanations-I like that. (Well, others do too, of course).
Fantastic Bay Rum shave, Neal. An ironic aspect to your detente shave is that when I look closely at the blue pattern of that beautiful brush, I see a mushroom cloud (middle of the handle).
Gorgeous photo and excellent report, Jim! The new plate sounds a bit tricky, but anything that just wipes the whiskers away is worth the extra effort
Tim, I hope you get a response. I never have! If you do, we’ll have to attribute it to your sunny disposition!
