Monday back to work safety razor shave: I saw a couple people had problems with the Thai Gillette Super Thins, I remember using the blade and not having any problems. So I dug into the DE drawer and pulled out a pack of Super Thins and loaded up my Joris. The shave went without issue, the blade performed fine. Maybe there a fakes circulating or factory QC isn't very good :signs002: I did get stuck with a 100 fake Iridium Supers in the past.

    Razor - Soviet "Soyuz 1"
    Blade - dorco-titan-stainless.jpg
    Soap - Proraso Green
    Brush - @Jayaruh #312
    Post - Alum

So, is today the end of the week or the beginning? I'm confused. I know my schedule is different but I think we're all a little off kilter about now. Good day in the Lou if you like clouds and a little bit of rain, and I thought I'd make it an interesting night with the shave. I picked up the "Soyuz 1". This little Soviet made razor was named by me, in honor of the complete disaster that was the actual Soyuz 1 mission. This razor certainly lives up to the Soviet engineering ideals of that mission. Basically, differing gaps, uneven edges and the blade is a bit wavy in the razor. Yep. Makes it fun. With a really good blade this razor can put out some pretty decent shaves - if you know what you're doing. But that's no fun. Let's give it something less than really good, but not terrible. The Dorco Titan fits the bill. All Dorcos are okay blades, just not top of the line. Or even close. The best part of this setup is the brush. The JR312 with fake horse knot. The soap isn't bad. Proraso is a very good soap. Nothing special, it just gets slick and cushions.

As always with this razor the first few strokes are reminders that I need to really watch angle more than pressure. Although pressure will create some chatter along the corners of the blade so there's that problem too. No blood was shed but the alum proved that I had a lot of close calls. Hard to get a constant angle when the angle seems to change from end to end and side to side. Still, I got a near-BBS on three passes at only the price of some pretty warm alum. I'll have to see if I can improve that tomorrow. It doesn't help that the blade isn't as sharp as I like, but that's just one issue. The real issues are on me, and finding the technique again to make this razor work.

Hope your week gets off to a great start!!

I noticed when I took this picture that the razor seems to be glowing. It was made prior to Chernobyl, so I'm pretty sure this isn't due to radioactivity. Well, at least not THAT radioactivity.
