    Gonna need an ocean......
    ....... of calamine lotion.

Some years back, I took a trip to Italy for final approval on a piece of equipment my employer was to purchase.

First day there I was sensing a poison eruption on my arm. (I spent a great deal of time trail riding my horses in those days, so not unusual)

I could not find a treatment for poison ivy in pharmacies there.

I'm told that poison cultivars of that nature are not found there.

What a country...... pizza, spaghetti, red wine, and....... no poison ivy!

I feel you on the poison ivy, Paul. I have been dealing with for the past few days on my arms. Second time in about 2 months (actually the only 2 times in my life). I hate the stuff.

    Menthol Mayhem Monday
    Gillette /Valet Autostrop VC4
    Feather FHS-10
    DS Cosmetics tuxedo
    Stirling lemon chill

Good morning gents.First use this morning with the Gillette/Autostrop VC4.the last of the valet autostrop line.loaded the just arrived Feather fhs-10 blade .A little fiddly but followed instruction and pushed the blade back until it aligned with the pins, closed the side clasps and pulled the lever to lock it in place.Made sure everything was tight, inline and blade corners covered.
Started with a proper goopy slick Stirling lather, folding in on itself and super shiny.
First pass-started the north to south at the sideburn riding the cap as normal until i felt it cutting, there's the sound ,like buttering toast to quote a fellow member here.did the n/s pass all over .quite even stubble left like the first pass of a tech razor.so i am keeping the angle somewhat consistent.
Second pass-lower neck start rh side as always for the south to north, easily finds it's angle when pulled upwards on the neck and followed to the sideburns with short light strokes on both sides, the usual, maintaining the angle on the cheeks.Buttering toast again..
Plus pass-not much left to be honest, usual couple of spots on the left lower neck but they were gone in short order.Didn't get cocky or go overboard.
result- an honest near bbs.very close shave.liberal splash of lemon chill aftershave ,nice burn then cold..I shaved a little high on rh cheek to get a stray so minor warmth there. No weepers or real issues.I did apply a little nivea balm for just in case as the lemon chill hides everything.
Summary-this is a cool steampunk looking solid well balanced razor.it has the charm of a farm implement. It would be fiddly to remove the blade and store it so i will use it for 1 or 2 more shaves then bin the blade.I got 30 feathers locally for a good price so no $$ wasted,I really didn't know if this razor was a display piece or not.definitely usable and the second of my non de gillettes, the other being a late 60s twin injector model.I will try that one at a later date.Am i happy?,you bet. Will it replace my beloved de's? no .but it's a cool piece of history and will stay in my rotation.I like that the Feather blades just drop in,not interested in modifying stuff.Thank you all for tuning in and have a fabulous day..happy Mayhem..:) 20200517_145816_edited.jpg

    Awesome shave, Joe! :D

I really like the sound of that Prairie Song scent profile, and the base sounds wonderful. I really liked my Ever Ready 1912; beautiful handle design, and a fantastically smooth shaver. When I decided to simplify my life by giving up all my GEM platform shavers, this was the one that hurt the most.

    SOTD MONDAY, MAY 18, 2020

I know everyone talks about Wool Fat Friday, but I’m declaring this Mitchell’s Monday. I’ve been neglecting my #1 favorite soap. There’s nothing that compares to MWF spiced 6 drops of M-Bomb. Now I know everyone loves those stinky PAA soaps. I need to stay away from smelly soaps due to my SWMBO’s fragrance allergy. Mitchell’s is the perfect soap. Great post shave feel and minimal to virtually non-existent odor when working the same puck after a few days. For the shave today, I decided on a Gillette.. My favorite Gillettes are my Single Rings, my Big Fellow, and my New Standard. Since I've recently shaved with the first two, I selected the New Standard for today’s shave. This little 58 gram wonder feels great in the hand and delivers a first rate shave.

The brush selected was the Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute with the 26mm two band Badger ferrule. Fine Accoutrements Fresh Vetiver AS Splash and A&E Post-Shave Serum completed the software selections. After the shower, the shave began with the usual cold water rinse. Face and dome lathering with this huge 26mm fan knot was such a luxurious pleasure. MWF just feels great, and leaves ones skin feeling great. Now it’s time to mention this 99 year old razor (1921). The New Standard just shaves so well for me! With a Feather blade it delivers the goods while singing the stubble reduction song. I would shave with this razor much more regularly, if I didn’t have so many great DE and SE safety razors already. In any case, three slow, relaxing passes later (WTG, XTG, ATG) put the baby to bed!
I feel cool, clean, smooth and refreshed!

    RAZOR: Gillette New Standard
    BLADE: Feather
    PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute Brush w/ 26mm Two Band Badger Fan Ferrule
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat enhanced w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and Fine Accoutrements Fresh Vetiver AS Splash. Finished with A&E Post-Shave Serum.

Awesome, awesome report, Gary! I think steampunk is probably the best description of the Autostrop that I've ever heard. I'm thrilled to hear that this is a usable shaver for you, and that it fits in with your other razors--fantastic shape. :D
