I've always been a distracted guy. Add to that the fact that I'm retired and isolated... well, the days are all the same.

And that explains why I've forgotten an important anniversary: 75 years ago my grandfather left Dachau to go home, after acting as interpreter for a War Crimes colonel in interrogating the SS who held the camp.

My granddad was from London, but he lived in Milan working for an Austrian company, Thonet, and spoke 5 or 6 languages fluently, which saved his skin.
He had been arrested by the Gestapo while carrying a machine gun for the partisans: he looked very distinguished and they thought he was unsuspected. But a check outside a train station led to his capture.

You know I never asked him what he shaved with?

Solingen blade I recently received arrived in an “Edelstahl” coffin but no such markings on the blade. I’m not 100% convinced just which maker produced this razor; if anyone knows please reply. All its markings are visible in the pic.

    Saturday Straights' Shave

    Cold Water Rinse
    Pharaoh's Dreamsicle
    Jayaruh #408 2-band Badger
    Wade & Butcher 5/8
    CWR
    Pharaoh's Dreamsicle AS

The Pharaoh's Dreamsicle Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #408 Two-band Badger Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Wade & Butcher 5/8 gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Pharaoh's Dreamsicle AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

  10. Saturday morning’s Grand Freeze:

    Neutrogena Men Facial Wash
    Razorock Plissoft 26mm Monster
    Super Speed/new Derby
    Bundubeard Vanilla X 3 SS
    Prep ASB
    Alt Innsbruck AS Splash
    Bleu de Chanel EdP

My God, is this Vanilla X 3 ever fabulous - the scent is beautiful, the lather is so thick, rich, and super slick, and the menthol sensation is overwhelming, not to mention how soothing and comfortable the postshave feeling is. I started a new jar of Prep which my good friend Ignaz sent me, and the Alt Innsbruck went on icy cold along with its gorgeous scent - yet it doesn’t disrupt the Bleu de Chanel. Three passes with the brand new Derby blade ensured a brilliant BBS shave!

    Be safe and healthy!

  11. A miracle your grandfather survived, Sergio. He was a dashing man. I had some family, who also survived the Holocaust. Their tattooed arms were always a grim reminder of the cruelty that exists in our world.

  14. He survived because Dachau was not a killing field. There they were experimenting on prisoners and he was a Protestant, not a Jew, therefore he made it.
More over they used him as an interpreter as there were inmates from all over Europe.

But been told when he was back, he could not sleep and spent his nights walking in his room...

An told me many things I saw when I went to visit thew camp.
He was in barrack # 17, if I do not mistaking, and now there is only its perimeter in concrete.
He did see the cruelty of the nazis...

  18. Thank you for reading, Andrew... :)

I tried to find the descendants of the officer who signed the letter but they can'd give aany address and won't certainly write them.

But would have liked them to have a copy: their grandad released many prisoners!
