Awesome shave and gear Joe! I have learned you don't have to have a Currier and Ives looking lather. Don't get me wrong! I like those lathers, but the main purpose of any lather is to have the protection so that the razor glides to cut the stubble.

Wonderful shave, Tim! Since you started shavette shaves, your reports have been much more positive and upbeat! It’s definitely had an impact on your safety razor shaves. There’s an entirely different tone to your reports! Go Tim!

Bill, I give you a lot of credit experimenting with the carts. They do serve their purpose, but I just can't use them. I am not a razor snob, but I just don't like digging in between blades to clean them.

I hear you Jeff! I have to say that I own very good razors with the exception of the VDH TTO. Although it has surprised me with some shaves, I consider the VDH as a pedestrian shaver at best.

Thanks, Jeff--it's probably that I've just gotten used to blood ;)

All kidding aside, the shavette has helped me slow down and focus, and that has carried over into my other shaves. Hard to be an Eeyore when things are going well

Well, it's just that I never bloomed soap directly before shaving. I would do it before my shower, then do the shave. Sure is a trick, all right, Joe.

    May 23 Special Saturday Shave

    Good afternoon guys!

    Shavette Shave #161
    Parker SRB Shavette
    Rockwell 1/2 DE Blade (3)
    Omega Pro Boar 49
    Stirling Spice SS and AS
    Nivea ASB

The gear for today's shave is special for a few reasons:
First, The Omega was my first boar brush.
Second, The Parker shavette was the razor that turned me away from using my Dovo as my only shavette. However, I still like my Dovo over this shaver for sentimental reasons.
Finally, other than Stirling Sandalwood, Stirling Spice Special Saturday Shave has a nice, quintuple alliterative title. It also smells nice.

I am going to make this short and sweet. Everything went well and finished the shave in the usual manner. Achieved an IBSS+ that gave me a dot-sized weeper. A quick poke with a styptic pencil stopped it. It was a nice comfortable shave. Have a great evening! 20200523_155939.jpg 20200523_155939.jpg

Love the Omega ‘49 as well, Joe. Do you have a ‘48? A little bigger version. Chris @Bama Samurai once described it as good for “mopping up foam off a disco floor”. I didn’t ask him how he knew...

Tom made a new handle for that razor, Joseph? I also have a super mentholated batch of Florida Water. High alcohol + high menthol + added Glycerin + great scent = awesome + occasionally painful. Mine is in a smaller spray bottle, though.

You are not going to see me jumping the fence for this stuff.

Learning to shave with traditional gear has certainly helped me get improved shaves with a cart.

I do it mostly as an educational exercise expand my understanding of the 'newer' old ways.

My journey sounds similar to yours, Joe. For quite a few years I would just use one soap puck (with one cheap brush) until it was gone. With a cart as well. Then in late 2016 I stumbled on this place. Suffice to say, I’ve accumulated a little more stuff since then...:)

I've decided to be the "Occasional Mad Scientist" again.....bringing out occasional(hence the title!)soaps reserved for cold weather and trying them throughout the summer. @Trigger, I'll need a spare set of keys for your Chemistry lab, thank you very much. If I find them to be uncomfortable they'll just be "One-Trick Ponies", and will go back to the cold weather section of my bus....er...den. In fact, the experiment(s)have begun right now, with Sir Hare.

Very informative, Bill. Sounds like the Kai Pink is worth picking up. I have 2 AC razors, but have never used anything in them besides Feather Pros.
Even when I used carts, I wasn’t much of a Mach 3 fan. Used a Sensor for probably 20 years, actually.
