I seen (and done) some strange things to restore a brush, but so long as the intent was to improve the brush I could generally approve of their actions. This makes me ill ......... Destroy a cheap brush, but not a decent brush ...... all to call it folk art. And to purchase it to salvage it only encourages them to do it to a Simpson, Kent, or a Rooney. Just my 2 cents.
I understand your dislike but I think it's a clever idea for someone who loves fishing. It looks like giant jig or plug (can't recall which, plug I think).
I have a similar reaction when I see vintage coffee makers turned into bird feeders. I just have to remind myself how many million were manufactured and that I own more than most people.
I understand, and do find them interesting, but to make them from a catalin or bakelite brush I find is just a waste. I think an Ever Ready bobber brush (79) would look good like this and they're as common as dirt.
Speaking of Rooney... Yes. That is a fishing lure inside it. Some people call it "folk art." I call it floppy.
Hello! I bet most people have no idea how rare and valuable that brush is Plan of Man. That is the only one I have ever seen, and I have only heard of one other. Dig it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'll look through my stuff and see if I can't find the box it came in. I really ought to sell it. It's cool, it's rare, and it's my least favorite badger knot. I'd reknot it, but 'historical value' and all that.
Blah and bull hockey, make it useful. Please don't take offense. It's loved or it's junk. That handle is beautiful, put a great knot in it.
It has a great knot in it. Rooney "heritage" hair is what I think it's called these days. It's considered the best hair that Rooney ever produced. It's just not to my taste, which is short and scrubby. It will make a fine brush for someone else someday. I've already significantly lowered the value of it by A) using it and B) putting a protective coat of enamel over the sticker. it's now worth about what I paid for it, instead of the $300 I probably could have gotten for it if I'd just flipped it on eBay. No regrets.
