  3. Featherweight mk2, gem stainless ptfe blade, shave 4
    gfwmk2.jpg

The mk2 differs from the mk1 as seen in the pictures below.
    fw1.jpg fw2.jpg
Featherweight mk2 is the razor on the right in the first picture and razor in the middle in the second.

Having used both I can say the mk2 though mild is not as mild as the mk1 Featherweight. I can also say this razor is much closer of a shave than the mk1. The finish was a BBS except under one section of my chin. I also did a few swipes with this razor and the G-bar and can say for sure the G-bar and this razor are not the same either based upon the blade feel. The G-bar is the least mild of the 3. To be determined on the next shave is if the G-bar shaves any closer than this mk2 Featherweight.

  4. SMN Tabacco Toscano is an absolutely lovely, timeless fragrance. The eucalyptus element that's exclusive to the soap/cream is quite unique and refreshing in the warmer months.

  8. Great picture. I love the look of that brush. Is it just the reflections and shadows or is the orange section swirled?

  9. Thanks!
The orange section is swirled. This brush is a second because the swirl isn't even but that's what makes it cool.

A serious Saturday Morning Shave This Hawk is not one to use if you have been out on a Friday night and overindulged . Lots of concentration and a light touch are rewarded with a supremely close all round finish. I shall be interested to try out the Razor with a guarded base plate.

Razor: Gem Micromatic open comb or MMOC- Mfg 1930-41, the razor that helped Gem pull through during the dirty thirties. One of best razors Gem made IMO and was revolutionary for its time with the first Twist to open(TTO) ever.
Blade: Gem Personna SS PTFE (10) great all around blade, sharpness, longevity and smooths out during its life cycle nicely.
Soap: Tabac- great soap that lasts & lasts........triple milled with a mild floral scent with great lather qualities.
Brush: Yaqi tuxedo knot 24mm with black marble handle, excellent brush that splays, scrubs, soft tips &paints well.
Pre-shave:Brush wash my whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser+ a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on beard area.
Prep: cold water rinse after each pass of 3 + pickups.
Post shave: Razorock King Louis Lavender aftershave with witch Hazel + a small dollop of Nivea balm.
Results: CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers = [IMG] excellent shave with my Gem Micromatic razor today.

  13. I had an excellent shave with one of my favorite razors ever. The Gem Jr. Bar is an excellent smooth but efficient razor. This was my first use of this handle I recently made. I like longer handles bit I may have went a little overboard on this one. I'm planning on making myself another slightly smaller handle in a different color combo.

The Stirling soaps Almost Heaven is a wonderful scent and has good slickness. The jury is out on boar brushes. I want to like them but have not been impressed so far. The Thayers aloe formula with cucumber is so much better than the cheep witch hazel I had previously. I look forward to trying the rose when I'm ready to buy more shaving accoutrements.

This was Shave 2 with my new razor. It went very well. 3 pass BBS no issues. Light touch and I thinned my Lather some. That way I was able to get a better feel for the blade.

I am just waiting for the magnets so I can finish them up.

    Have a great weekend.

Gem made 2 versions of the featherweight as seen here.
    [IMG] [IMG]
mk1 is on the left in both pictures.

I had a second shave to confirm my initial impressions. This time I shaved a little steeper on the angle and reckless abandon on the pressure. This razor still is the mildest of the 3 even after being shaved this way. My shave should have been a bloodbath but it wasn't and almost no irritation after 5 passes mashing this razor into my face. Only thing that did change was the closeness which was better but still not in the same territory as the mk2 Featherweight.
