That is definitely an issue I have as well.

For all my aggressive and open comb razors, the best two shaves I have had in the last few weeks was the 1901 Gem Jr. Lather Catcher and a NDC tech. Go figure....

I wish I could get more blade life out of the SE. I can get 2 good and a meh shave with stropping. I would at least like to see 3 good shaves so that the more expensive blades at least have a life as long as the DE blades. Yes, I know.. some of you can use the same blade for a month... thptptptptptptt

    Morning, folks.

Saw this earlier and thought of Rolls:

I don't care if you lick windows, take the special bus or occasionally pee on yourself... you hang in there sunshine, you're special.

    Ugh. Hi gang.

I feel miserable today, that sinus drainage is finally settling in my chest... arrrrrggggghhhh...cough...hack...wheeeeeeze.

Yesterday was a slightly bad day. Let me illustrate.

Okay, first of all, coming back on a Monday after bad weather is never a good thing... server had shut down in a power outage over the weekend, so "everything" was broken. Teachers bringing me stuff they have to have ready before Wednesday--which should be quick enough to set up, but of course, problems abound. Got other computers that I have to have ready before Friday--- Bossman breathing down my back about some stuff that was ordered, but hasn't shown up yet. You know, typical Monday. All the while my sinuses are working overtime draining into my throat. (Sunday night, I had only about 30 minutes of sleep because of the sinuses. Sudafed isn't doing a thing to help, and it's pretty much the only thing I can take.) Then I went home and the fun started.

Let me ask this: What makes a grown, educated man with a reasonable skill set think that he is in the least bit capable of undertaking a simple, 1 hour home improvement project?

The faucet in the bathroom sink has been dripping furiously for some time now. So, we broke down and bought a new tap. Well, yesterday evening was the night to swap it out. So, I gather all my tools together, clear out some space, and assess what I'll need.

Let's see, I've got teflon, got my wrenches, a light, looks like once I get it loose from the feeds, I can just lift the sink out and work on it in the floor. Great, so I've got to find my basin wrench and go buy a couple of new feeder lines to replace the copper ones and maybe some new valves just to be safe.

1 hour searching furiously for the basin wrench. Nowhere to be found. Call my Aunt to see if she has it. Ahhh, she does. Okay, well I've got to come into town to buy some supplies anyway, so I'll swing by and get it.

Fast forward a bit. Let's get started. Everything comes out okay, get everything loose and take the sink out. Get all the holes cleared of sediment, etc. On closer inspection, I only need to replace one of the cut-off valves... that's a good thing. Let's get that done.

Replace the valve, get my feeder hoses attached. While I'm bent over (sinuses still acting up, at this point, I'm fatigued and it's nearly 8:00) I notice that the S-trap is cracked and it's going to leak like a siev... no problem, I should be able to pick up a simple S-trap at Walmart. Off to Wallyworld I go.

Nada. All they have is P-traps and I'm not going into the wall. Well, if I hurry, I can just make it the 35 miles to T-town to Lowes and pick up an s-trap. So it's off to see the wizard. The help staff at Lowes are so helpful. They all look at me like I'm an intruder as 2 employees walk right past me and my puzzled look while I stand bewildered by the all the options. Okay, do I need 1 1/4 or 1 1/2? Hmmm... better call the missus.

"Just measure the opening on the pipe"
    "A little more than 1 1/4"
"Okay, 1 1/2 it is then!"

So, I grab the trap, and head for the door. They're calling together all the "associates" for their pre-closing meeting and I'm getting the stink-eye from several employees.

    Fast forward a bit.

Walk in the door, pop the trap out of the package and go to slide it into the pipe in the floor.

    Guess what.

    Yup.

    1 1/4.

    Son of a---

Call my aunt, "you wouldn't happen to have a 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 reducer would you?"
"I dunno, I'll go look and I'll call you back."

So I head toward her house, hopes high. Maybe I can finish this project tonight after all. She calls en-route. Nope. She doesn't have one. Okay, I'll swing over to walmart, maybe, just maybe they've got something like what I need---it's doubtful, though.

    They don't.

Call my brother, he might have what I need.

"Well, I've got something that might work... come on out and take a look at it."

So I go over there. "Over there" is way the other side of Distraction. I get what he has, bring it home, hold it up to the pipe I already have. Wrong size too.

    Okay.

So, I get things to a point where I can turn the water back on in the house, and I get ready to take a bath and go to bed. At this point it's after 10:30, the sinus congestion has moved into my chest and that 30 minutes sleep I had the night before is about gone, as is the little plate of cornbeef hash I had for supper 6 hours ago.

    How'd I sleep last night?

    About the same. Thanks.

    So, how's my day?

    We'll see.

Woke up to a nice rainy morning. Did not
want to get out of bed. Went to the office
for a hour or 2 now back home. Thinking about
    crawling back in that bed.

that sucks, Micah. I can relate to DIY plumbing challenges.

While back our bathroom sink was draining very slowly and I thought that the trap needed to be cleaned out. I figured I could look up the process for doing so online and follow directions.

In normal circumstances I think that would be true- but what I didn't know is that the previous resident of the house (also a minister) did the bathroom plumbing himself. And he didn't know what he was doing and his halfway plumbing job was the cause for the slow drain.

Anyway, the trap was all messed up because of the way it had been installed. My attempt to remove and clean it made the sink unusable. My landlord has a handyman, who promptly came out, took a look under the sink, and told my wife (I forget where I was at the time) "tell Mike to remember I'm the plumber and he's the preacher."

He did mention that I did a better job with the plumbing than the previous resident, though.

you know what that sounds like to me?
one of those sermons you prepare and keep in the back of your Bible, and on a Sunday that particular person shows up..whamo!
"And today, congregation, our sermon just happens to be about...." :happy097
I'm kidding, of course - although I do believe there are "preachers" who do such things....they'll be held accountable though

trying Yuban coffee today...not bad at all.
friend of mine from church buys only Yuban coffee, except for his Keurig maker. I tried it at his house once and liked it.
Only problem with it - only comes in regular, dark, and decaf....those are fine, but I haven't seen the dark roast anywhere yet...the real problem is they don't sell it in whole bean form...:(

there certainly are preachers that do that. I'm not one of them, partly because I want people to come back next week and partly because we use a lectionary and I preach on the readings.

Type 2? She getting exercise? What med is she on? A schedule is important, too. Most food has sugar in it. Not just the sweets. Balanced diet.

It hasn't been diagnosed as type 2 yet. She went in when she was having severe asthma. Doctor didn't like her blood pressure and had her have a bit of bloodwork done. Doctor has her monitoring blood sugar and was told to keep her level below 140 and to just cut out most carbs. I don't know off the top of my head which med she is on. I know he also gave her crestor for borderline cholesterol. He gave no actual limits on carbs, how many calories etc... So my wife is trying to use carb choices where she is limiting each meal to about 3 carb choices based on the formula her mom's doctor gave her {(carbs-fiber)/15 = carb choices}. Now the only person I know that is a more picky eater than my wife is my daughter, so things haven't been that much fun with this.

    OMGosh, are you serious??

First of all, 140 is just "Wha?". Normal blood sugar range is 80-1.. (runs off to Google, and then gets pissed because apparently they can't make up their freaking minds about ANYTHING. Stupid doctors.)

    I give up.

Hope she gets everything figured out.

    There's a reason it's called practicing medicine.

Good luck to ya man, my nephews just got over the flubug.

By the way, I need to drop off an invite for you, if I don't make it in time, just remember, Saturday, Oct 24 5:00 pm, the kids are more than welcome to come... in fact, they might enjoy the treasure hunt!
