  1. Outstanding! That razor looks like it was made for an actual British Aristocrat.

  4. The Janus Toggle is a very blade forward type razor. In the lower settings, 1-5 it actually gives a very good feeling shave with above average blade feel. Not the smoothest mind you but, in those lower settings it’s got better than average smoothness. Compared to the Rex, the Janus out guns it at every setting from low to high in terms of blade feel. Unfortunately, the Janus does not inspire a lot of confidence in the higher settings as it tends to get a bit skittish and you feel a tiny amount of blade chatter. You get none of that with the Rex as the blade is locked in firmly and supported much better than in the Janus. Settings 1-5, the Janus is a capable razor and delivers very good shaves but, as of now I prefer the shave characteristics of the Rex with a much better supported blade that is stable and rigid. The Janus is well made with impeccable tolerances and is a shave engineering marvel. The owner changed some of the physical attributes of the prototype that had received excellent ratings from testers yet somehow those changes did not translate to the production version as those same testers have stated that it’s not even close to how the prototype shaved. Too blade forward and aggressive while losing the excellent smoothness it had exhibited in the tester razor.

I can’t speak of the Gillette Toggle as I don’t own one. It was the reason for me purchasing the Janus Toggle to be honest. I’m still trying to dial it in and see where it can go because I really do like the engineering behind it. First attempt of the Legendary Gillette Toggle in more than 60 years. We’ll see after a few more shaves experimenting with settings and blades. Still to early to determine if it’s a keeper or not.....

  9. Just the Basics June!

    June 4

    Razor - Magic Shavette
    Blade - [IMG]
    Soap - Arko
Brush - Stirling Two Band Synthetic
    Post - Alum

We made it to the end of Friday!! And, I finished with another basic shave with the Magic shavette and Derby blade. Stayed with basic Arko and went with the inexpensive Stirling synthetic brush. Like their soaps, this brush is economical and performs way above its price point. That's a very good thing. Three passes, BBS finish, alum was a bit quieter than last night and I say let's get the weekend started!!

  10. Thanks for your feedback, Gus. I really like the looks of the Janus, but I have two Toggles, different finishes, and an Ambassador, so I passed on the Janus. I wonder why the production version is different than the prototype. I agree, too early to tell right now until you test with a few more blade manufactures and dialing in the right setting for the blade in use. I find this is the case with my Toggle and certain blades.
  11. Thanks, Gary!
