Awesome shave and great lesson, Neal. If I reach that point, it's usually at the end of a shavette shave on the ATG pass on my neck; I start shallow and nothing happens, but if I steepen the angle just a bit, it wants to grab and bite.

My knee-jerk reaction to this is to force my way through it to show that facial hair who's boss. It is. I find that when force the issue, I experience blood loss or razor burn or both. Better to walk away DFS and irritation free--what I did this very morning :D

Economy of space--deodorant sticks are tall, slim, and utilize more space. It's also easier to shave off the soap; push up half a millimeter or so and just use the edge of the bowl to shave the soap in. Stirling soaps are particularly soft, and I find it's almost easier and definitely less messy to that than apply the soap directly my face. The soap tends to push past the sides of the stick rather than stick to my face, then I have to either start playing with angles to scrape the soap off the stick or just use my finger and apply what I scraped off to my face.

And then there is the time I spend scrubbing my face. It used to be that my face would get sore just from the face lathering. I thought my skin was reacting to the soap, but I'm starting to think my poor shaving skills were at the root of that problem. If you are constantly dealing with razor burn, it doesn't take much to irritate skin that hasn't had a chance to heal. I've upped my shave game since joining the 30DC half a year ago, and face lathering doesn't appear to be an issue for me anymore--I used the stick directly on my face again today and face lathered irritation-free. :D

True that! The Missus is rarely in a celebratory mood when shave-related packages arrive at casa de baluka. It would be the acme of nerve to ask her to photograph, then send me an image of the offending parcel--perhaps a MAY-hem 2021 opportunity to flirt with death ;)

Jim, you've either got a very understanding wife, a mountain of moxy, or some combination of both :D
