I had a great weekend... Boardwalk in Bossier City (I spent the whole time at Bass Pro), the church had a successful pumpkin festival set up, I came in second (in the MONEY!) at a big no limit Texas Hold em poker tourney Saturday night, and Micah and I made a lot of progress with our Halloween party preparations. Today is good too, although my son is sick with a cough and stuffy nose. :(

All you who want snow can have ours when it comes.

When/if it ever snows down here, we don't get (h)ours, we just get it for a few minutes, then the Walmart bread aisle empties, and we all get back to business as usual.

allow me to make one correction to this statement:

when/if the meteorologist even slightly hints at the most minuscule fraction of a percentage of a chance of any kind of non-rain precipitation taking place a week from now, the WalMart bread aisle (and water, canned goods, paper products, etc.) empties out, lines form at gas stations, and schools begin calculating their bad weather days.

you don't even want to know what happens when he/she says such precipitation is guaranteed, and if it ever actually happens, it front page stuff.

Ah yes... I remember those days from childhood. Free time off for a single flake. A little spot on a puddle would guarantee school was out as well. My parent's owned a small gas station/country store/lunch counter and there was always a run on supplies. There were probably as many accidents from crazed insanity driving with the threat of snow than we see in a typical real storm up here. OK, that is an exaggeration, but not by much. Then there are the people who only rub off a tiny circle of frost and try to drive with only a tiny circle of vision.

Yep. I lived in Wisconsin for almost 4 years and got my fill of snow. Folks down here go batty at the smallest flake. I felt safer on the road after a major snowstorm (or even during) in WI than I do after one flake here in cenla (or even after the announcement that there might be a flake). Oh, and when there is ice, look out. They can't clear the roads to save their lives AND people don't have the sense to slow down.

That used to be me. And then I lived in WI and bought a scraper. Now I'm the only driver on the road with a fully scraped car.

Huh.... I hadn't realized that you had spent time up in WI. Fun isn't it? That's why there are bars every block. In a blizzard, you don't venture out too far, but still stop by the neighborhood bar.

yep. my seminary is in Nashotah, WI. (midway between Madison and Milwaukee). My wife was born and raised in Madison and lived in Milwaukee while we were dating. We lived in Mineral Point, WI after marriage.

I miss the meat, potatoes, and good beer but I don't miss the blandness. And I like having access to good seafood.

Spent about 10 years in Door County (up on the peninsula) Nothing like being surrounded on 3 sides by Lake Michigan during winter.

What... You don't consider smelt seafood? :happy102

But yeah... lots of bland food. But for those who have never been up that way.. step away from the lutefisk and you don't want to know.
