The Shave
3 very quick passes this morning (the Missus was making French toast, and I wanted to be done before the food was ready). WTG, XTG, and ATG, with only a few small touch ups on the bottom of the chin and around the bottom lip got me BBS. Today is a chase day, but I really didn’t even need to chase.

The lack of chasing surprised me quite a bit actually. The Flare Tip is a very mild razor, and the Voskhod was on its 3rd shave. Evidently not an issue. While I still prefer an aggressive shaver, I’m finding that the aggression level doesn’t matter quite as much as I used to think--especially when I’m shaving daily.

I was not going to shave until Tuesday because I wanted to see what the Mad Max would do with 3 days growth. Anyway, I had mentioned earlier that this razor was in very bad shape. It had a big chip with a few minor ones as well. It was given to me by a friend and I accepted it because I didn't want to appear ungrateful. At the time, I thought this razor would never shave because I wasn't an experienced honer and to get ot professionally repaired would be prohibitive. Anyway, I continued working on this razor to see if I could get it shave ready and lo and behold I did. It took a lot of hours to really get it done. Unfortunately, I dropped the razor and the tip at the spike broke off so I had to mute it because it was really sharp. Anyway, after 2.5 passes I ended with an
IBSS. Went back and hit the razor with the milder grits, then hit the fabric, then crox, then fabric and finally leather to finish the shave. I ended with an IBSS++ with no irritation, but got weeps during the fool's pass. No biggie. Finished with the aftershave. I can't believe that I got a decent shave with this razor. She may not be pretty, but she still has life in her. Well, that is my first successful restoration project. I am shocked to say the least. I think that I will fine tune her later on to see if I can get her somewhat sharper. I guess this razor will be a member of my den. This would make 15 straight razors in my possession. I had to have Asha at the airport at 5:30am so it was a very early shower and shave for me. Inspired by @Primotenore , I will stick with Mike's OC&BP until its gone. Both the Chel and Star Jelly are at best a thick liquid. I think the heat during shipment cooked them. Even so the Chel used as preshave provides a fantastic cooling sensation that last well beyond the shave. Despite the time constraints this morning, I managed to catch the baby. I hope everyone has a great Monday

I was basing my guess on the one Stirling sample I finished. If I remember correctly I got fourteen shaves from the ounce of soap. I did load extra heavy this morning and that's the plan moving forward.

celebrated last night with a party with me and my other boys for a friend of mine who is about to ship off to Paris Island for basic in a week from today. Meant to do a shave yesterday so I went and decided to do it today. wishing these braces I have could come off early that way I could enlist right out of graduation from my high school, but I am looking at 6 months post graduation before I can enlist due to the length of my braces treatment. anyway all that matters is at least were all enlisting .

Sunday kicked of the focus with a big Dorko 7/8 straight. Tabac was my first soap and to this day is remains a top performer in the den. In a world of x.x version and reformulations Tabac remains the same and I hope they never reformulate it. The Rooney super badger was a almost unobtanium when it was the flavor of the month, I eventually picked this one up used and it justifies the reputation. The shave was epic and appropriate start to the OG focus.

Monday's shave is a favorite cream of mine, Castle Forbes and I think their best scent is lime. The Kent BK-8 is also one of my favorite choices for lathering creams, big a soft like a cloud. A big shout out and thank you to Jeff @jgreenepa , I bought this Valet Auto Strop about 9 months ago but I could not figure out how to lock down the blade so I never got to use it. On the Zoom call Jeff explained it to me so here goes it first shave. I loaded it with a Feather and went to work. It surprised me and delivered an excellent shave and the blade lived up to the Feather reputation. My only dislike is the thin handle, I prefer thick handles on my safety razors. The shave was excellent.

I used less water on the brush(indeed Distilled Water is one of the Stoylin soap ingredients). About 0:30 to load the slightly drier brush. Usual Stoylin greatness, what else can I say? 2 healthy passes. Did a better job with the neck's "Y Formation", which clearly pleased me. Got some good "bubble" action in the soap. Quite Excellent.

Focussing and working your way through a single tub of soap is not as difficult as some might think.
Especially when the soap is a real joy to use, as is the case with this Jabonman.
I mean, it's not like doing a 30dc with Arko.

Another glorious lather created with the aid of the Mondial 26mm Boar knot.

The second day with the Voskhod/Super-Speed combo and
this is another "I could use this everyday" example.
Three easy passes and a touch of buffing-clean up for the win.
Seaforth! Spiced Lime was the perfect choice for a beautiful summer day.

Well, Tim, my shave today was excellent, and I will admit that it must be the blade. I am fast becoming a Valet Auto Strop booster! I now own three of them. Two proprietary - they can only use Feather FHS and FAS blades or Valet Original (VB2, VC4), and one non proprietary (VC1). This was my second shave with the VC1.

In my first shave I used a modified Gem blade, but this shave featured a Feather FHS-10 blade. The shaves were identical with the exception of the blade used. Now don’t misunderstand what I’m about to say. I love Gem razors. I own several and get great shaves from them. It’s just that in this case the Feather blade outperformed yesterday’s modified Gem.

The Gem wasn’t faulty. It was only the 4th shave on that blade, and I routinely get 7 - 10. It was a new Feather blade, as I rarely get more than 4 shaves from this type blade. In any case today’s shave like yesterday’s was a one and 1/2 pass (WTG, ATG) BBS, but it moved into the velveteen (VBBS) arena on the dome. Now in fairness a fresh Gem might perform equivalently, but I’m going to quit while I’m ahead. I feel cool, clean, velveteen smooth and refreshed.

RAZOR: Valet Auto Strop Model VC1
BLADE: Feather FHS-10
PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH: Kent Infinity Synthetic
CREAM: Nancy Boy Signature enhanced w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb.
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Nancy Boy Signature Scent Cooling After-Shave Gel.
