very cool.i used modern williams as my only soap from 2006 to 2016 with brush and carts.then i discovered the rabbit hole of wetshaving.only just received a puck of vintage recently as not around up here and the shipping cost to canada is outrageous.but found a reasonable deal and indulged.i mentholated mine as per the "GD Carrington" method.very nice stuff in comparison to modern.although modern does create a great lather if you know how to work it.:)

Williams isn't anything special, but it also isn't as terrible as it is made out to be. My father used it because it was a fraction of the cost of Old Spice soap. I have his puck here and use it a couple times a year. I would give it a shot at some point, but wouldn't go out of my way.

I haven't paid attention in a while, but there used to endless threads about how awful Williams was, or how hard it was to lather MWF (insert flavor of month to hate here) etc... Neither of which are true. I have had Mindset, skillset, then tool set regularly reinforced for the last couple of decades and it pretty much applies to most aspects of life. It is common to see people blaming their gear/kit rather than taking a look at what caused the poor outcome. Once you figure things out, it really doesn't matter what product is used.

Awesome razor, and an awesome story behind it, Gary. Congrats on the razor and thanks for the information.

5 bristles from an Omega? Full length or sheared length? Full length would be my doing from extracting the knot. Sheared length is a little more perplexing from a new knot.

In the past I’ve awaited your reviews before pulling the trigger on an SV scent. Maybe this time I can return the favour.

It is possible to not pull a hanging strop not taut enough and the edge gets rounded. Pull it tight but not so tight you pull it out of the wall.

    He makes outstanding strops, enjoy!

Thursday shave: Next up for classics week is Cella and Simpson Chubby 2. There was a time when this line of brushes was all the rage, it seemed like the denser the knot and the smaller the handle the better. This knot is extremely dense so the there is a lot of back bone but the tips are oh so soft.... but..... she is a lather hog and the handle is too short for me.

Cella is another one I hope the never reformulate, while not on the same level as vintage Old Spice or AoS tallow or Tabac this is a serious performer. If you enjoy the smell of marzipan this soap is for you.

Today's razor is a Mühle 2011 R41, which when I bought it was the end all be all for aggressive razor lovers. It really is my favorite DE but she is fuzzy about blades so I only Wizamet Iridium Super or Gillette Super Blue in her. Today was Iridium Super on it's first shave.

Everyone lived up to their reputations and the shave result was epic. Just wish I had whipped the head before the picture.
