Fantastic Jayaruh brush. Excellent shave, I have a few CL splashes and toners. I think like like the feel of the toners better. I have yet to pick up the Unconditional Surrender. One day soon.

Day 4 now, Jim? Awesome pic as always. Yes, I can see why that handle would be slippery now that you've mentioned it.

    Thanks, Jason.
Day 4 and a long way to go. The scent is starting to grow on me. As of now not enough that I'll replace it when it's gone though.

Very nice shave. I agree regarding your assessment of the Micromatic. If your mind wanders, it brings you back in a hurry.

Look at that Goodwill, Gary! Apparently the Euro ones were not as 'Goodwill' as the North American ones...

Thank you, Joe. Yes, I used a Gem PTFE. They are the only Gem style blades I've ever used, truth be told.

Thanks, Jason! I agree that Connaught has the best prices and they stock a lot of great gear too. My most recent order from them still hasn’t arrived and it will be a month tomorrow. I grabbed a couple more Palmolive sticks from them last time.

Awesome shave and report, Andrew! Love how that Schick/brush combo looks! :D

My adventures over the last couple days required me to take things easy for some areas during today's shave as well.

"so if you aren't giving it a good soak before use (I keep mine soaking while I take a shower) it'll steal the water out"
That explains a lot. I did soak it, but not for all that long.

    June 18--Just the Basics June
    Shavette Shave #97

    Gear
    • Razor: Utopia Care shavette
    • Blade: Astra SS--Inspired by Patrick’s recent purchase of 100 Astra SS blades, I thought I’d break my last sample in half and take her for a spin. These are great blades!
    • Brush: JOmegan--no bristle loss; yesterday must have been a fluke
    • Soap: Stirling Iced Pineapple (preshave) & Texas on Fire
    • Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops--the last couple of days I have been adding a single drop to very wet hands, and applying to my face in between passes; refreshing but not glacially so
    • AS: Clubman Original (1 Frost Drop added)
    • Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented

    The Shave
I remember (partially at least) reading a story in third grade about a man whose wife was always yelling at their many children (who were always yelling or fighting), and the poor guy just couldn’t get any rest. He went to a wise man for advice and was told to bring the chickens into the house. It got worse. When he complained to the wise man, the wise man told him to bring in the cats as well. Then the dogs. Then the pigs. Then the goat, the cow, the saber-toothed tigers, the t-rex, etc. etc. When the man was about as crazy as he could get, the wise man told him to remove all the animals from the house. He had the best sleep ever. The kids were probably still obnoxious, and his wife probably still yelled, but his home became a peaceful haven of bliss.

I only mention this story because it puts the following sentence into context: I had an amazing shave with the 9 dollar Utopia Care shavette. After a week of adding chickens, cats, dogs, pigs, goats, cows, saber-toothed tigers, t-rexes, and Strong Leopards into my shaves, the Utopia Care shavette loaded with an Astra SS has become a haven of shaving bliss.

3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG), one small weeper, and yesterday’s irritation is gone. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful :D

    97 down, 3 to go!
