At first I thought the knot was too big for the handle. It is really a very tight fit and required really forcing it into the hole. In fact it was so tight that I was able to do a couple of test lathers. I liked the look so much I went back to Heritage thinking about another handle to find everything is out of stock.

    Thank you Jim.

My knot had to be forced as well. I didn't know if the bore in the handle was on the small side or if the knot was on the bigger side. Sounds like the knots run big.

Fine shave this morning. I worked a decent lather of the Stoylin bath soap in the shower to set it up. Out of the shower, 0:30 to load the Stoylin No-Name brush(there MUST be a name, but it appears not to have one. This could be an issue for Doc Ezlovan to solve). I made sure to leave the brush on the dry side so as to attack the already moist Razorock Acqua Shaving Cream Soap. It'll have to be drier the next time, but the soap didn't get THAT soaked. Two healthy passes, although I did an extra touchup after the first so let's call it 2.5 passes in all. One nick near the end of the first, but it didn't cause a problem. I hope to finish this soap by summer's end, if not sooner. Aqua Velva A.S. to finish. Super Duper Excellent.

I will try to measure both the bore and knot before I setting it.

Until reading your post, I had never made the connection between the naming of the Mongoose and Cobra razors. Sounds like a battle one might see on a Discovery Channel reality show.

Well here we are at straight razor shave #4 or about #7 if we take into account the debacle of 5 yrs or so ago. One thing remains clear, “I STILL HATE STROPPING!”, it seems like too much trouble when I can just pick up one of my 17 chosen safety razors (10 SEs, 7 DEs), drop in a blade, and knock out a perfect VBBS. I have learned to channel my discomfort, however, after reading how one of my two Long Island Joe shave brothers (both accomplished straight razor aficionados) prepares for a straight shave. He strops at night!!!

One of the issues those of us with more solar rotations under our belts than we care to think about suffer from is poor sleep! I used to sleep 7 to 8 hrs a night. Now I‘m lucky to eke out 4 or at best 5 hrs. No more, it seems. Last night, before retiring, I sleepily stropped the old Dovo 50 to 60 times. For whatever reason, I slept 7 hours straight! Who needs Ambien! I’ve got stropping! Thank you, Joe (@Trigger), Your offhand comment may have cured my insomnia!

This morning’s Mug straight razor shave proceeded pretty much as the preceding ones, very slow and steady as I attempt to learn proper handling technique. The two (WTG, ATG) passes took a bit less time, but I still haven’t worked up the courage to attempt XTG yet. That approach is what led to my temporary resemblance to Al Pacino in Scarface about 5 yrs ago. Tomorrow will be my first three pass (WTG, XTG, ATG) straight razor face shave. At least I know I’ll sleep well tonight! My wonderful Colonial Silversmith cleaned up my mug and mowed my noggin stubble down right to the skin line floating on its thick, cool, slick cushion of M-Bombed Nancy Boy shave cream. I feel cool, refreshed, clean and velveteen (VBBS).

RAZOR: Dovo Special (mug) Colonial Silversmith (noggin)
    BLADE: Sharp Star (1)
    PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH: MrEE Aluminum Handled Hybrid Knot #007
CREAM: Nancy Boy Signature w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Nancy Boy Signature Scent Cooling After-Shave Gel.

Awesome shave and report Jeff! Glad that stropping before retiring for the night gave you a good night sleep, but you may want to be careful of nicking the strop or rolling the blade due to inattentive. Maybe jumping jacks might be a better option. Lol!

Excellent photo and shave, Clint! Your brush makes me think of the white haired flat top haircut of my Elementary School principal. He was one person that could strike fear in any of us kids back then.
