Definitely nice to get out and about for some fun like normal. Wifey and I started doing once a week as Texas went through the opening stages late May. Girls too scared, we just bring home take out for them. But, tonight while scarfing the red beans and rice, we decided to go back to take out only every now and then as Texas is becoming the new hot spot. Ugh.

There will be new hot spots but eventually it will calm down. NYC was the epicenter. Long Island was also hit badly. We still have to wear masks going into stores, etc. Sorry, that your neck of the woods is hot right now, but I believe it will go back to normal.

I probably wouldn't try open edge if I was afflicted with Parkinson's.

A tool worth looking at is the Feather DX with a ProGuard blade.

    No stropping.

More weight than most shavettes. 316 Stainless and closer to a straight.

    No stropping.

Uses a clad blade with little guards that wrap around the edge to minimize danger.

I'm not sure what blade is loaded, but if you zoom in you can see the guard protruding.
    20191214_085937.jpeg

    No rust.

    No stropping.

ProGuard blades shave smooth like a nicely finished and perfectly stropped straight, but no stropping.

Can be found new on eBay for $140.

And did I say, NO STROPPING.

If I'd have gotten this before spending $$$$ on straights and sharpening stuff.........???............ Well, you know....... I'd have probably bought that other stuff anyway.

FWIW, my official position is with Dr. Kildare and Ms. Greene.

Father's Day was a little late in the Headroom household.

It is possible that the new 24" Summit Charcoal will replace everything.

Propane is for the 'weedburner' fire starter.

Was looking at Big Green Egg, and Kamado Joe. Weber won.

Thanks, Bill! But I’m really not buying any open edge shavers. This Dovo, and possibly one of the razor’s my son bought me for Father’s Day are the only ones I’ll use, but I suspect I’ll be PIFing them away once I’m satisfied with my skill level. I just get a superior and much less anxiety-producing shave from my safety razors. I plan on putting in the 100 shaves, but that will be it for me.

We have had some rain in the ATL this week. I feel water logged. Another busy day ahead so it was nice to get in a quick relaxing shave. Three passes and touch ups ended in a drama very BBS shave. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

The brush is a soap eater. I'm at twelve uses of the Astra Planeta with a long ways to go. I need all the help I can get.

Stropping at night has done wonders for my sleep, but is so unpleasant! But unfortunately, it is necessary. It’s just so much easier to drop a fresh blade into a safety razor. Anyway, after strapping a 3 lb weight to each forearm I launched into my face shave this morning . The Dovo no longer feels as alien in hand as it did a week ago. Straight shaving my face is no longer as tentative as it was, but still does not come close to the closeness I’ve come to expect from the 17 safety razors in my regular rotation. Today’s two pass (WTG, ATG) face shave was the best yet, but still required cleanup with my Eclipse Red Ring. I still don’t get the attraction so many of you have to this approach to shaving. But I get it, different strokes for different folks.

The easiest way to get through my straight shave each day is looking forward to the upcoming mug cleanup and dome shave that mark one more day towards my goal of being able to finally put the Dovo Special away in victory, and finally return to just safety razor shaving. The Eclipse Red Ring (ERR) is an adjustable highly efficient safety razor. It has never failed to deliver a superb velveteen BBS (VBBS), and this morning was no different. After cleaning up my beard lines and shearing away the remaining stubble around my Adam’s Apple, I launched into my usual two pass (WTG, ATG) noggin shave. The razor’s baseplate design was unique for its time, and has been appropriated by Classic Shaving’s Occam’s DE in the design for the aggressive plate for the latter razor. Using the ERR this morning was a joy that again delivered your smiling narrator to that cool, clean, refreshing velveteen BBS zone.

RAZOR: Dovo Special (Mug). Eclipse Red Ring (Dome)
    BLADE: Sharp Star (1)
PREP: Cold water rinse and Chel Cooling Gel as a Preshave
    BRUSH: Jayaruh Custom Boar #372
CREAM: Nancy Boy Signature w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Nancy Boy Signature Scent Cooling After-Shave Gel.
