Yeah, Chris burned through that shave, and he did it right in my beginning stage when it was taking me 45 minutes or longer to get a shave completed. I'd have bathroom-counter grooves half an inch deep in the middle of my thighs from leaning against the counter, and I'd get so darned tired. So I started timing my lathering/first pass, and got it down to about 10 minutes before I quit timing myself. Those initial 1st pass runs were never anywhere close to DFS, btw :happy102:

Turns out that the fatigue must have been more mental than anything else, because if I'm enjoying myself and have the time, I'll stretch out a shave to 45 minutes, and walk away refreshed. I'd be curious now to see how quick/efficient I am now on a 1 pass run. My guess would be I'm not much faster, but have gotten between DFS and CCS

Well said Blair. I enjoy the lather time thus always a three pass shave with a fourth lather just to enrich the skin then wipe off.

I incorporate body weight as well. The X3 Bar system is intense and efficient. Usually done with 15 - 20 minutes with excellent results. I have lost 40 lbs using it and a vastly improved diet in the last year.
I’ll just keep at it. Not bad for a senior citizen.:signs136:

Awesome, awesome shave, Joe--I burned through the last of my Soap Commander "Drive" three or so months ago. It was a generous PIF from Perry @PLAla that I thoroughly enjoyed. I think the only reason why I haven't broken down and grabbed another tub is I can't decide between "Courage" and "Respect"

    Love that Jayaruh brush! :D

Thank you Tim. That is my fifth Jayaruh brush, 4 boats and 1 badger/boar. He makes good stuff. I am tempted to obtain the SC Embark. However, I am on a soap buying freeze. If I do decide to pick up any soaps I will go for the sample size until I reduce the den a little. The missus keeps telling that my products need to go on birth control.

Awesome photo and report, Joseph! :D

I have a tuck of the Russian blades, but I've only shaved with one so far. It was amazing! Ironically, because I know I probably won't wind up purchasing them (they are a tad pricey and difficult to get a hold of), I will most likely never use the ones I have simply because I want to save them. So stupid. Think I'll pull a carpe diem and tack on "use up those wonderful Polsilvers" to my June focus. ;)

    Awesome :happy102:

At one point in time I had between 7 and 10 shave sticks floating around our bathroom. Most were samples, but that didn't matter; the Missus proclaimed, "These deodorant sticks are starting to feel a lot like tribbles!" When she starts speaking in Star Trek metaphors, things need to change... stat! ;)

Thanks, Joe, I respect your rationale, but would argue the aesthetics point! But rather than do that, I’ll simply provide my tag line, “de gustibus non diputandum est”. Or more succinctly, there can be no argument about taste. I'm proceeding down the straight razor path to prove to myself I can do it. I'm hoping that eventually it'll become less onerous. I currently get a much closer and more comfortable shave with my safety razors. I'm striving to achieve the same with my Dovo Special. My son, Ben, shaves with a straight razor, but his preferred shave is his OneBlade Genesis which has never worked for me.

Thanks, Tim; I do as well. Jim Roe builds a great brush! I own four, two boars, a synthetic, and a Silvertip Badger.

    June 25--Just the Basics June

    Gear
    • Razor: Utopia Care Shavette
    • Blade: Astra SS (3 or 4?)
    • Brush: Semogue Boar--Andrew @Linuxguile had to have put this brush to good use before he sent it on my way. After a good soak, it is every bit as soft as any of the Plissoft synthetics I’ve used, but has a more substantial face feel, and distributes the lather better. I just don’t know if there is any kind of brush I will enjoy more than a good boar.
    • Soap: Stirling Iced Pineapple (prepared and chilled with ice water)--don’t know what the deal was, but the IP was feeling super-cool this morning. More so than usual… very refreshing!
    • Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops
    • AS: Avon Wild Country (1 Frost Drop added)--deep, warm, sweet, and mildly spicy. I never took Avon seriously till Keith @Enrico surprised me with this. That it came in the coolest glass car container… well, that’s gravy!
    • Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented

    The Shave
Inspired by Jason’s @jtspartan XTG/XTG shave today, I thought I’d also give one a whirl with the Utopia Care Shavette. The Astra SS half-blade on its 3rd or 4th shave was a trooper--sill cutting well enough to keep it in the game, but you could tell it was the 4th quarter, and it had given its all. I decided to add a half pass for the goat zone, and got firmly in between a near BBS and DFS. Had the Astra been on its 1st or 2nd use, I’m thinking I could have skipped the additional half pass. All in all a great shave, and no irritation.

Thursday draws nearer to its end, and Friday cometh! :D

Understand completely! Those were his 78s. I had a special rekship with my grand father as well! We were fishing buddies.
