  2. Thanks, Andrew. If it's any consolation, you can spend a lot more for 100ml of a fragrance.

A repeat performance on all counts today. Early morning workout on the patio at 6:30 AM, a hour of splitting wood, shower and off to Queens to drop my mother-in-law home. Therefore, I had a mid-afternoon shave that was fabulous.

Tonight, my son, age 10, and I will head out to dinner as my wife is having the girls over for the evening. Looking for to dad and son time. Of course he is lobbying to go to Friendly’s. That is not going to happen.
  11. I think I will be done in 7-10 more shaves. I have some new stuff I am ready to try.

  12. Hi Joe..someone a few days ago asked me the same thing. I think user error takes the lead on this one.

I think a little venting in the initial stages of straight shaving is probably pretty healthy, actually. Between learning new techniques and proper maintenance, there are plenty of opportunities for frustration. Great report, wonderful gear, and awesome progress on the straight shave :D

I've watched so many straight shave videos, and one thing I've noticed is that everybody holds their razor pretty much the same at the beginning stages of the WTG pass, but then quickly diverge in the way they hold the razor as the shave progresses. Some of the things I watched I would try, and they just didn't feel right--or even worse, were downright dangerous for me to try based on the way I'm wired. With that in mind, I'm hesitant to say there is a proper holding technique for straight shaving. Whatever best lets you safely keep the touch light, the angle shallow, and the blade from creeping laterally on you is a proper holding technique as far as I'm concerned.

That said, there were some parts that I struggled with that never got better until I went at them kamisori style. It might be worth trying it out for difficult parts--it will quickly become apparent whether it works for you or not, oftentimes before you even set the blade to your face
  15. At the end of last summer I got rid of three months worth of beard with a shavette. It was the first time I'd picked one up, but I was astonished at how efficiently that WTG pass removed all that hair. If I ever grow a beard again (you'll see the devil with ice skates first), I will definitely get rid of it with a shavette or a straight ;)
