Nice setup and picture, Perry! Yes great minds do think alike. My L1 just benefitted from a good, far off camera angle today.

 

I’ve actually been shaving daily with the Dovo. Stropping is no fun, so if these two razors turn out to be decent, I will be able to rotate them.

 

I hate to break it to you, but you still have to strop the blades before you use them.

 

Do you know anything about the Feather razors, Joe? Ben has upgraded from the SS model razors to the correlative DX models. He owns a western style SS and a Kamisori style, and has offered them to me. He’s quite excited that I thus far haven’t managed to cut off my nose and ears. Part of my issue with stropping is my arthritis. Are these razors similar to straights without the stropping. I have a ton of AC blades. What are your thoughts? I may just sell these two new razors. The Dovo is more than enough for me.

I hadn't shaved since Friday, so it was a full 72 hours of growth early this morning. The SC seemed a good choice in the 'basics' rotation and I'm committed to using this cream for Menthol Mondays for awhile at least. Everything worked as it should, and I was quite smooth after 3 pleasant passes. I'd never paired this Bon Vivant with Palmolive before, and I not sure it matches at all, but it sure smelled nice this morning.
My ability to keep caught up hasn't been very good lately. Tomorrow, hopefully.

June 29 SOTA Menthol Monday!

Good afternoon guys!

This is my last shave of the month and I decided to use Cryogen once again. Did 2 passes with touchups resulted in an IBSS++ without any mishaps. The Cryogen really gives a good performance and a very cool Menthol kick. It is a shame that the soap changes into semi-solid/liquid mess in the puck and that you can't get at least 50 shaves in the puck. Now, I may have a possible solution for this change. Use very little water on the tips and nowhere else. Just load very little soap and paint it on the face. If you need more soap lightly reload without adding water. Repaint the face and then add water to the brush to repaint. Do not go back to the puck. Just keep adding water to get the lather you want. Don't put the brush back in the puck. Place it in a scuttle or bowl. If you do this, then I believe you won't have a soupy mess in the puck and quite possibly get more shaves. Although I said that I wouldn't buy this product again, I owe it to myself to buy another puck and see if my hypothesis is correct. I want to do this because I like the feeling and the performance of it. Finished with a double portion of the matching aftershave. Have a nice evening guys!

My Goodwill is a US model, Gary. Most likely a #160, so probably 1931. The Canadian ones with the two 'mortises' through the top cap are pretty cool.

 

I haven't used them, but from what I have read they give excellent open blade shaves. Considering your Parkinson's, you may have a problem loading the blade because you need to get the razor flush with the posts before locking it in the razor. However, I could be wrong with your loading capabilities on a straight. Personally, I never bought into them because if I was going to spend more than 200 for a shavette, then I might as well go for a straight. There are too many cheap alternatives like my Dovo and Parker shavettes. However, I can see people buying Feather shavettes because they don't want to hone or strop, but want something that is aesthetically pleasing and looks like a classic straight or kamisori.
