French made razor and the caged head version. Super aggressive razor and almost BBS finish achieved.

 

Haven't been here in a while. I'm continuing to shave though. Today's was a very pleasant shave with my '34 Aristocrat.

Hi all, Friday’s OC SOTD-
Undated Japanese Old Type clone.
Vintage Wizamet Super Iridium blade-(polish).
Most of the rest is pretty much self explanatory.
If anyone is familiar with Japanese Old Type clones, I would love some help identifying this razors manufacturer. And the year of manufacturer. I believe it to be a post WWII clone, but I have no idea. Photos of the inscription on the bottom of the base plate to follow.

About that Japanese Old Type clone. A fellow here referred me to a gentleman a long time ago so I could learn more about the razor. I believe he was some sort of executive for a firm in Japan. Well respected by all accounts. He tried to explain the pictograms as a logo, but did confirm it was Japanese. I can see why it could appear as a logo, but those pictograms seem way too complex and intricate to be simple logos. There seems to be a lot of content there for it to be a simple logo. I don’t recall him telling me an exact date or even a decade this razor was made, but I am inclined to believe this is a wartime razor intended for a civilian market somewhere. All that having been said, could those pictograms have been coded instructions or commands to a yet undetermined group of Japanese somewhere?

During WWII, even America used unconventional solutions for covert activities. Navaho code talkers, mock up tiny paratroopers that were similar to a child’s toy, an aircraft carrier made of ice, etc etc.

I wonder what I really have here. It just seems odd those “logo” have so much to them.

Nice shot Andrew. I have a VCI, which I'm still learning how to use without losing too much blood.

 

Thanks, Jim! The VC1 is one model that I don't have, but this B1 and my B2 look to be the same mechanically as the VC1. The VC1 has different blade stops though.
Of all the AutoStrops I own, the B1 and B2 give me the best shaves.
You'll get the hang of your VC1 soon I am sure.

 

Only mechanical difference in the VC1, VC2, VC3 series is they got rid of the roller guide at the back for the strop. But I can't see that there would be a significant drop in weight to affect the shave.

 

I don't think the weight difference with those rear roller guards would affect much. At least the VC1 is able to use a modified GEM blade, unlike the VC2,3,4.
