I'll try to remember next weekend.

Decided I need a crock pot.

Everybody needs a crock pot. More than half of our dinners come out of the crock pot now. There are 3 of us, so we've got the large variety. I think bigger is better though, even when cooking small amounts.

Bill has some awesome crock pot recipes on his website! We eat something very similar to his Crockpot Chicken and Dumplings at least once a week.

    hmmmmm

I need to find some crock pot recipes that Mrs. and Ms. Picky will eat and will work with wife's dietary restrictions (which really still haven't been defined)

That's why I need a crock pot now.

I've been meaning to try that cajun spaghetti. I think I am going to have to do that this week. :)

Silly spellchecker (silly me!). Two choices: recopies or recipes. Which would you choose? :happy102 I did NOT mean to imply that Bill had plagerized his recipes (or his recopies). I'm such a knumpty sometimes... :D

    (previous post fixed)

    :happy097 I didn't even notice.

Looking for a good price and a reliable vendor for freeze dried strawberries for Jenna. Not having much luck. :(

We buy ours from Brothers-All-Natural. They are amazing. Not cheap, but no fruit is.

    edit: the non-organic are cheaper.

I don't know if anyone still does this, but I can remember having a convection drier back in the '70's. Used it to dry all kinds of fruit, and then vacuum-packed the resulting goodies in seal-a-meal bags. I took this stuff backpacking with me and used to make my own trail mix out of whatever fruits I could find at the store.

It probably takes as much time and labor as just buying freeze dried, pre-packaged strawberries. It also doesn't work when berries are out of season. But, for next year...

Yeah, looking at the prices for buying freeze dried fruit. I might just try it myself. Of course with the electricity costs now and days......

Dehydrator! Works for making fruit leather, drying out fruits and hey! Jerky too! :drool

Crockpots? Try to find a vintage one, all the new ones run way too hot, even on low. The newer ones will boil liquids on low setting whereas the vintage ones cruise about 170 degrees or so.

ehhh......not so sure about the vintage crock pot thing. I'm certainly not a germaphobe, but ehhh.....

Hey I understand completely, don't bother me, but still to each his own. The only other way I know to control temps is to buy a Hamilton Beach 3 in 1 and trick it into using a lower setting.

I had a crock pot a few years ago. Had no trouble with the temp settings as they were.

Oh, calling me a liar? ::duel :D Joking of course!

We could never trust a newer one to cook while we were gone, they always burnt. Even that 3 in 1 will do it on low. I now have err... several crockpots that I use depending on the meal.

Maybe you are Justin-jinxed on new crock pots. :p :happy097

I would never be comfortable leaving the house with anything like that running. Never checked how hot the thing ran, either.

Nope, I'm sorry to say they do run hot, thanks to people eating undercooked meals and lawsuits I'm sure. Lots of good crockpot info in this thread here. Yeah, I know you can't believe everything you read on the net, but I have experienced it firsthand.

Well unfortunately, we have had to do it several times, never liked doing it but we still did.

Didn't mean I didn't believe you. Just that I don't have a problem with it doing so. Cause I don't leave the house. And cook time's are like adding water to a lather. Start small, add more until perfect (meat thermometer).
