The Emperor Strikes Back--
”The 30DC and the Extra Mile”
Okay. I forgot where I was a couple weeks ago, and made the mistake of mentioning that I was impressed with the Gillette News that I’d been seeing over the last month or so. I even went so far as to say they were on my radar. Naturally, not more than a day or two later, I got a message in my inbox from Jim
@jluc, saying that I could have one that he won in a TSD raffle if I wanted it…

Yup! That’s a Jayaruh handle. Shortly thereafter, he informed me that he found the handle to be slippery, so he was including another handle just in case. Awesome! So this is what I was picturing in my head…

Jim sees the world differently--
this is what came in the mail today…

It literally looks like a treasure chest! And yes, that’s a Jayaruh brush…

And that’s just how it is here. I don’t mean embarrass Jim, or dismiss the generosity that countless others have shown on this forum. I have had much the same experience with many people here, and have heard of countless others who have had the same experiences. The generosity and selflessness that I see at TSD on a regular basis is humbling.
Okay, maybe I do want to embarrass Jim just a bit: when I thanked him for his generous offer, he tried to play it off like I was doing
him a favor helping him clear room in his den. But this, once again, is not atypical behavior here either.
On with the shave!
Gear
- Razor: LUCky LC New
- Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (2)--pulled this out of the Slim Jim because I wanted the 1st New LC shave to be with a blade that I know is awesome!
- Brush: JR 151 boar--So tiny! After the Stirling Kong and Omega 48, my sons’ regular synthetics seem small. This brush looked positively microscopic. How could it possibly work? I still don’t know the answer to that question, but it does!
- Soap: Stirling Iced Pineapple with just a hint of Glastonbury
- Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops
- AS: Pinaud Citrus Musk (2 Frost Drops)

The Shave
Took the JR 151 to the bowl today in order to polish off the leftover Iced Pineapple from yesterday’s shave. I’ll admit, when I first saw this brush I figured I’d just use it for travelling--it’s perfectly suited for it. But the copious amount of lather it kicked up, and (this is the part that surprised me) the ease with which I applied the lather… I’ll probably be using the JR 151 more regularly than just for road trips.
I could have stopped at 2 passes and been plenty fine, but I wanted to see what the New LC could do. Wow! Very close shave. One small weeper on my jaw during the first pass because I was getting far too confident with a new razor. I slowed it down (slightly), and was rewarded with a BBS and no irritation.
I decided to forego the balm today, and stuck with the decision this time. A smooth shave.
Very smooth. I’m really liking the New LC a lot, and will probably finish my July focus with it even though the learning curve felt almost non-existent.
Hope your Monday has been the stuff dreams are made of!
