Great shave, Joe! Is that shavette able to use different sized blades?

Thanks Andrew. Yes, the Dovo shavette has 3 different blade sleeves.. The red sleeve takes the regular DE blades, but you have to break them in half or buy them already halved. Unfortunately, they replaced the red sleeve with a clear sleeve which makes it difficult to find the posts that stabilize the blade in position. The black sleeve is worthless because you can only use the Dovo long 1/2 blades that are no longer in production. The green sleeve uses Personna or Fromm long hairshaper blades. They are quite sharp and are almost as long as a traditional straight. I will use the Personna Hairshaper blade in my shavette on my very next shave on Thursday so you can see the difference.

 

Thanks, Joe. I would guess the hair shaped blade is a bit thicker too. Or no?

 

I guess I’m spoiled, as I routinely achieve a BBS with my safety razors without irritation. So I figure, if I can do it with a safety razor, why not a straight? I do easily achieve a BBS above the jaw. I just need to work on my technique to do it below the jaw.

 

I agree totally with you Gary! The best Gillette razors for me are the New Standard, Deluxe, and LC. I’ve always experienced great shaves with those razors. Not so much anything else by Gillette.

Well, in that time period, I was still unsure that I did real good, but....things just fell into place-probably long before I checked.

 

Nice shave, Joe! The only shavettes I’m interested in are the Feathers and maybe the Monsieur Charles which takes injectors.

 

i do believe that after the new series gillette just concentrated on making the same product for less and more safe..bigger safety net for the guys without technique..

Don’t go anywhere, Gary! You were my first friend here! I agree that many of the guys like Danny and Terry are missed, but I truly value both your knowledge as well as your friendship. I have a feeling folks will be back! I’m still a safety razor guy despite my current flirtation with open edge shaving. My old dome needs a safety razor to stay velveteen! Nothing else will do!
