Thanks, Jim, I am! I am currently in negotiations with someone over a Monsieur Charles for a Merkur 34 or an EJ 89. I haven’t used either in years. Whichever one he wants I’ll go for. I have no interest in any half DE blade shavette.

Yes. I am also working toward 200 with traditional straights. Right now, I am at 188 straight shaves and 175 shavette shaves. That's 363 open blade shaves. Two more shaves will gives me an open blade shave for every day of a calendar year. Yes, my goal is to be a 200/200 man.

Understood! After reading extensively about the half DE shavettes, I have no interest. I’m currently in negotiations for a Monsieur Charles for either a Merkur 34 or an EJ89. Haven’t used either in ages. Barter is the way to go!

Looking sharp, my friend. Your cool vintage gear is tops in my book, Gary. I hope you are doing well. :)

I plan to return as soon as life settles down a bit. I look forward to being among like-minded friends again. I can only imagine the bad habits that are developing in the meantime without my tutelage. :p

Keep the shenanigans going, and use Tabac every chance you get. :D

    @Droo78
I decided to prepare my Dove shavette for Thursday's shave.
You can see how the Personna Hairshaper blade is wrapped and how the blade is inserted into the green sleeve. The bottom picture shows the blade loaded in the shavette. This blade is almost as long as a traditional straight to give you the ability to cover more ground per stroke. 20200714_221556.jpg 20200714_222041.jpg 20200714_221556.jpg 20200714_222041.jpg

Looking forward to your cartoons and comments, Charlie. In the meantime, take as much time as you need while ministering to your wife, Kathy. Take care my brother.

Ok, I see now. Thanks. Looks to be about twice the length of a DE blade.

My thoughts? I do not have an R41 to compare to, but I do consider the FH head to be an aggressive DE, yes. Not a meatgrinder by any means, but you need to treat it with some respect, for sure.

I own a 2011 Mühle R41 and used to own Barbasol FH. They are both on the far end of aggressive, the 2011 R41 is my favorite DE and was the gateway drug. The Barbasol FH is a wonderful razor and very cool looking to boot. Let the FH go because the blade chatter and I wanted it to go to a good and get more use.

Gary, I never felt you were showing off, one of the reasons I enjoy TSD and especially the 30DC group is that all equipment if appreciated from the most crazy expensive custom straights, to the unobtainable DE to the blade glued to a twig. I enjoy them all and learned allot from you about a group of razors I don't own but I enjoyed seeing them and reading about them.

Straights are not the ultimate end to our shaving journeys, it depends upon the person. I can get the same level of shave from a DE, SE or straight, it is more about the journey for me. The end point is getting a good shave regardless of the tool. I just like they way straights look and you like the way all your cool British razors look. I am glad I can experience them through you. People come and go, it is about quality over quantity and we have awesome people on the thread. New people will come, sometimes a lot sometimes not.

The friendship of this thread is special, while sometimes I am too busy to be active I try to keep posting and every now and then through in my 2 scents and advice.

Hump day shave: Today's fancy razor is a Filarmonica 13 sporting a sharp edge. Everything seemed on point but the result :angry032:, not sure what happened. A nick, a moved over pimple and a tiny cut. The alum gave some feedback and the shave was not as close as usual. Over all it was an OK shave but definitely below average. At least I smell good.

Gary...I can assure you that nobody here considers you a showoff. If you want to see showoffs, look at some of the other shaving forums. That's one of the best thing about this thread...guys use a variety of gear, including vintage stuff - and often times, user-grade stuff. There's no snobbery here, and that's very refreshing. This is more of the everyman's thread. Even though it makes it hard to keep up, the additional banter is what makes this thread so great. It's not just guys strictly discussing gear. It's about helping others, sharing knowledge and even life experiences - which include situations such as yours.

You have an incredible selection of vintage gear, and the knowledge of all of it. You're a valuable resource here, whether you realize it or not.

    Thank you, Joe!

    Thanks, Andrew!

Thank you, Tim! It's impressed me, for sure. I don't know how many more shaves it will go, but it's been remarkable.

Thank you, Joe! I wasn't certain about the scent initially, however it grew on me quickly, and became a favorite. Shawn's products are top-notch, not only in scent, but they leave your face feeling great. He's a master when it comes to scents, being more of a fragrance guy. They are very unique and complex. I look forward to your thoughts once you try it.
I'm glad to see that your wife is doing well, and recovering quickly. No doubt you're both relieved.
