I do the same thing in reverse, Jim...I add bath soaps and/or shampoo bars to shaving orders to avoid the shipping. The Stirling shampoo bars are my go to- awesome products. I vary the bath soaps around a bit.

Thank you, Jim. It is the same colour resin as I used in your maple/resin hybrid. Yours was the first I did with resin, actually.

    Awesome shave and photo, Jason!
Regarding the Gillette Rubie - it was an estimated number (although probably fairly accurate). Either way, it held its own remarkably. I've never pushed a Nacet, and now I'm wondering how they'd fare.

Thank you, Bruce. I've never pushed any of the Russian Gillette blades, to be honest. The ones that I consistently feel last the longest are Polsilvers and perhaps PermaSharps, but I don't really chart that. Astras and Nacets are usually 3 and out for me.

It is a bit of an illness, you're right. When I figured out how to shave with a straight, I vowed that I wouldn't spend a dime on one. Thus far I haven't, but I have been bartering like crazy! I swapped a LaResche 61, a rather beat up Single Ring and a Merkur 34, none of which I'd shaved with in a while. Ended up with a Genco 35 straight and a Double Duck Goldenedge which I haven't shaved with yet, but which everyone says is a great shaver. The Merkur is in like new condition, so I was able to swap it with a local shave buddy for a Monsieur Charles shavette. I'm really trying to stay out of the straight edge rabbit hole. My son Ben, is a custom knife collector and amateur knife maker. He has two amazing razors from a custom razor maker who is apparently a master razor maker as well as a professional jazz musician, kind of goes together I guess. He's been pushing me to buy one of his high end San Mai steel method-constructed damascus razors. Snide bugger said he'd get it anyway, since he is the only one of my three sons who straight shaves. Go figure. Unfortunately, we can't take all this cool shaving stuff with us. :shaver

Zingari Man SS - The Wanderer (Barbershop)
    Zenith Boar
    J3Customs Kamisori
    Zingari Man ASB - Unscented
    Stirling AS - Barbershop

Drive by post....everything worked as it should this morning. Awesome Zingari Man bowl lather made with my second favorite boar brush, A Zenith disco/rainbow layered resin. ZM Wanderer is a light barbershop aroma. Fun razor, this J3Customs Kamisori handles like a dream, super sharp and smooth after a stropping round this morning. 2 passes with some neck buffing & skin stretching, very nice DFS+ below the jawline, BBS- everywhere else. Followed the shave with a light application of the Zingari Man ASB, consistency similar to Art of Shaving balms, (or like a thicker lotion sunscreen). Final step was a healthy smattering of Stirling's Barbershop after shave splash....a household favorite for our world.

The layered effect on the blade....unintentional, it's a reflection off the white wood blinds near by, not the layering of steel.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

The Blackbird is supposed to be a great shaver. Clint recently bought one. Jim, (@jluc) since he owns practically every modern artisan razor probably has one. Shane does build a quality razor. I own a Blackland Vector and love it. Great head shaver. Steinmetzify over on B&B sold almost his entire collection after buying and using his. There are a lot of fans out there.

Jason, I think I'm beginning to get a handle on my peculiar form of RAD. I'm currently not interested in acquiring new safety razors. I've been caught up in this straight razor illness. It logically makes no sense! Why disregard entirely the safety in 'safety razor' in order to learn how to shave like my grandfather and possibly in the process accidentally remove a valuable anatomical appurtenance with an unexpected cough, sneeze or hiccup. In fact, SWMBO shortly upon her return pointed to the 5 yr old scar on my cheek and asked if masochism runs in my family? I winked and said, I married you my love! Sometimes I feel like I'm living in an episode of the 'Honeymooners' with Jackie Gleason.

That is one purty brush by the way!

Hello friends! It's been a while hasn't it? How has everyone been? It's been a crazy but rewarding three months. I am so blessed that I got to spend the entirety of my wife's maternity leave home with her and Maverick (while working from home). Taking care of her and the three boys plus trying to do my job effectively didn't leave me with any time to spare to devote to the forum or you fine gents. Now her maternity leave is over, but that doesn't mean things are back to normal by any means. Currently I am required to work one day a week in the office and my wife has to work two days a week. The other days we work from home. I'm happy to say that I will be making a bit of a comeback, but I won't be able to check in every day. Anyways now to the important stuff, I'm sure you've missed seeing pictures of the boys. They've done a lot of growing in the last three months.

Now I know what you're going to ask me, have I been growing a beard? The answer is no, I'll be posting a shave here shortly.

Here lately I've been picking a setup and using it for a couple weeks. I changed my setup this morning so this is what I'll be going with for the next fortnight. I've also almost exclusively been shaving in the shower, a quick one or two pass shave every couple of days has been enough to keep me looking presentable. I'm really looking forward to a couple of weeks of straight menthol as the temps are starting to get a bit warm here. I hope you have all been doing well and I'm looking forward to catching up with all of you!

Welcome back, Andrew! We've missed you, but you were caught up in the best part of life. Your children are handsome, and I'm sure giving their mom and dad a run for their money. Enjoy it! They grow up very quickly. I became a new great-grandfather since you left. Emily June is two months old and doing well. Looking forward to your posts.
