July 2020 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix & Discussion

Well...not busy with restoring the straights. I've had them for three years. I work on them in spurts. The slower the better. It delays the inevitable.
By all means, don't rush to find the straights (unless you're uber excited, of course). When you get around to it, we'd love to see them.

I find that both systems are more than capable. I still tease people who use Android though. It comes down to picking which ecosystem you prefer, and getting whatever devices you want to match. There are upsides and downsides to either. Apple makes using devices easier, but they tend to "pigeonhole" you more. Even still, their devices do everything I need and a whole lot more.

 

Thank you Andrew! Every straight shaver has a different opinion on how to learn to use a straight. I believe that learning to use a shavette before a straight is the best way for a number of reasons. The initial outlay is inexpensive because you are not buying a strop. The shavette teaches you technique because it is very unforgiving. You learn to use a light touch and the right angles of attack for the contours of your face. Once you become proficient in shavette shaving moving to straights is a cakewalk whereas if you started with straights it would be more difficult. Again, this is how I learned to straight shave and my experience is not the end all, be all thing. Many people start out with straights from the get go and they do well.

 

True...but don't let that stop you from getting more.
Currently, I think I'm pushing 40 soaps - plus a boatload of samples. There are others on the radar. Compared to others, such as Jim @jluc , I'm a lightweight.

I just don't want to leave a lot of soaps after I go to the hereafter because there's no one in my family that would use them. If I knew that I would have a limited time, then I would sell or pif my razors except the Mad Max. That's being buried with me when the time comes along with my two top badger brushes and a Stirling puck or 2.

 

Great Blackbird shave, Bruce! Wholly Kaw Soaps have a great rep. I only have King of Oud, but do like it, although I don’t use many of the soaps my son has gifted me. I’ve always been a shaving cream guy; the only soap I really like is MWF. Not a soap scent guy! I like it simple, the software is just there to support the shaving tool for me. Lots of menthol, but I do like AS scents, just not soap scents, too distracting.

Sounds like a plan, Joe! Not me, I’m sure my son, Ben, who got ne into this forum world will swoop in and take all the shaving equipment.

 

I don't know how many soaps, aftershaves, brushes or razors I own. I refuse to count. Anymore than one of any of them is more than what's needed and I have way more than I need.

Thank you, Jeff! I'm a fan of Wholly Kaw. Between WK and Grooming Dept., they make up the lion's share of my software. There's a bit of a "theme" with WK's lineup - many of his offerings have similar profiles. Both WK and Grooming Dept. have interesting, complex scents. Either you love 'em or hate 'em.

 

Nice shave, Bruce. That's a blade I haven't tried before. Too bad it didn't work for you, but there are tons of other blades in that price range to choose.

 

some of my gillettes will get sold for cheap to folks who would like them. some would be donated here as raffle prizes.a brit rfb or 2 are going with me..

 

The storage units would be in a possible of 3 different locations in 2 states that I don't live...so there's no rush.
