We are all safe and doing well. Asha is driving cross country from Tempe to Tampa this weekend. She’s looking forward to moving in her new places and starting the program. Maya moves back to Lexington in Mid August. That will leave Swati and I empty nesters again.

I pray that you both continue to do well. Keep us posted. Stay safe.

I’d be happy to help. Maybe we can just get together on weekend and get it done. I have found the easiest way to get the knot out of the brush without damage is to steam it out. I would not use this method with a vintage or wood brush. I steam the knot out on the island with my small camp stove. It generally takes less than 15 minutes start to finish.

Actually, I asked that he not spiff it up. There's some WW2 Marine Corps history tied into the razor, and I think all the blemishes just add to its character.

    Soft Guards vs ProGuards......
I didn't care for the Soft Guards, not all of the guards wrap the blade. The wavy guard parts seemed to hang and snag.
The Proguards all wrap the edge and were smoother.

Tell Ben, only Girly Men shave without weights on their arms. ;) Nothing like weight training while shaving Edge Forward.

Kami style vs. Folder....... I only have the folding type. It was better for me to have a built in storage guard for the edge.

I find the DX hefty with weight balance towards the business end. The $250 price tag bothered me until I found them in eBay for $140. Not sure why the $$ bothered me, if I'd have spent it sooner I might have a few less $300 straights.

I really like the DX, but do enjoy the deeper routines I use with straights.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks! I need to figure out the right size boar knot for the replacement too. I’m thinking one of the Omega Pro sized knots will work. But then I’ve got to use the Dremel to cut off the handle.

That’s a great camp/backpacking stove by the way. My favorite though is the Svea 123.

The best straight shave I've had thus far (BBS) was with a Double Duck Goldedge. It was a pleasant shave. I think I prefer the Barber's Razors, but that may be because they are different in angle than my straights. I gather the DX shaves much like a straight. So that probably would be the better razor for me.

What is the knot glued in the handle with, epoxy or silicon?

The knot was set with epoxy. Heat breaks down the epoxy and the knot will pop out with a pull. In most cases almost all the epoxy in the hole comes out with the knot. Do not use this method on vintage brushes. The knots are not set with epoxy and you will destroy the handle. Be very careful using with wooden handles as the heat might split the wood.

By the way steaming a knot out destroys the knot. It is not reusable.

With silicon, all you need to do is soak the brush in very hot tap water and pull it out. A knot set with silicon and removed this way can be reused.

I removed and replaced several knots for Mark, @Boojum1 . There were more than a few I really didn't want to send back to him. :D

That is good news and happy birthday to Kathy.

I owned the SS and DX, I sold the SS. The bump at the end of the SS required an angle unique for blade forward shaving. The DX is like a near wedge straight. I recommend the DX over the SS.

When you meet, you guys must take pictures. Joe C and I did at out Long Island mini 30DC meetup. We represented the NY division. It's only fair that the Georgia division do the same. Lol!
