Thank you Jeff. The big improvement I've made with the Stoylin Frost Drops has been in shaking the "vial"-I think that's what produces the droplets, rather that not shaking(as I did last summer)which produces solid water, no drops.

Thank you Gary....good morning-well, it's afternoon now-to you too. I really missed Wimbledon this summer, but of course we must live with that, and all else, given this thing.

 

What matters the most, Gary, is that not only did you find a better way to shave for you - you also found it to be enjoyable and made a hobby out of it. So, congrats!
I always find it interesting to hear how others stumbled into traditional shaving, and how it became a hobby. Thank you for sharing your story.

I'm a bit of an outlier, I suppose. I didn't have an issue with carts (aside from the cartridge refill costs). I used them beginning in my teens, up until a few years ago. Using canned goo and various cart razors over the years, I got super close shaves. I was always a three-pass shaver - never reapplying cream/gel between passes. Never an issue for me, and VERY seldom was there even so much as a weeper. A shave only took a couple of minutes.

Having said that, I didn't enjoy shaving. It was just something that I did - usually every other day or so. As I recall, it was the website "Touch of Modern" that featured the OneBlade razor. After clicking the link and checking out the razor, I was intrigued - yet shocked at the price (almost laughable now, given all the high end stuff out there). Nonetheless, it got me thinking about the Gillette on my grandfather's sink (I wonder where it is now...) and made me wonder if that type of shaving even still existed in today's world. Down the rabbit hole I went...

What started as a curiosity somehow morphed into a full-blown hobby. Admittedly, there were times that giving up was a consideration. It was a long road unlearning the habits from using carts - meaning not using pressure, and keeping the angle of attack right. Being hard-headed kept me trying. As a result, I never shaved my face with a cart razor since first making the switch. Never did I think - not for a second - that it would become such an enjoyable way to begin the day, or that it would become a hobby. I feel lucky that I stumbled across TSD - and the 30DC in particular. Never have I seen a better group of guys - in any forum.

Fantastic post Bruce. I too am an outlier. I never had a bad shave with any razor I used before making shaving a hobby. I shaved at least daily since my teens with either a cartridge, electric or single edge disposable razor. Much of that time I did use a brush with soap. I laugh now thinking that I made the switch to DE razors to save money. What I find most appealing to this hobby is there is a place for everyone to find their niche and enjoy it. For those that want to save money, it is doable and enjoyable. For those that like nostalgic things, there is plenty for them to pick in this hobby. For those like me that don't have a nostalgic bone in their body, we are living in a wonderful time with new artisan razors, soaps and brushes galore. This hobby is enjoyable and has room for those of all different budgets and interests.
