Thank you, Jeff. I did remember that you are one of the few here that didn't make the switch to traditional shaving - it's what you did from the start. It's wonderful that you were able to turn it into and enjoyable experience/hobby.

Great shave, despite the weepers, Joe!
VdH blades aren't bad in a Parker. Put 'em in a DE razor and they suck.

I have used them in my VdH TTO and they weren't bad. They are a little below Rockwell blades. Like I have shared, if I shave with any new blade and my growth is under 30 hrs, then the likelihood of weeps increases in my situation. Usually, it is my stache area and that's why I don't perform a fool's pass on a new blade.

That's the main reason I actually got rid of the HUGE Clubman I had many years ago(16 oz). Having said that, though, my Stephan Bay Rum is 15 oz., and I'm hanging on to that, as I don't use that as much as I do Clubman.

Oh oh..is this a physics issue? No wonder I never got far in science. But as for the Frost Drops, I just got upset and frustrated seeing it come out as plain "frost" or liquid. I'd rather see drops, since that is what Doc Ezlovan calls it anyway.

It’s funny you say that. Shaving to me, or what everyone refers to as wet shaving was what one did in the morning before work. It wasn’t until after my trusty Krona broke, and I started talking to my son about his “shaving hobby” that my attitude began to change. Exploring my fathers and grandfather’s things turned up some old Gillettes, and the rest is history! My initial forum was B&B, and to be quite honest, I didn’t have the greatest most positive interactions there where it’s mostly, “look at my shiny new extremely expensive shaving whatsis along with these additional 47 steps I go through with every shave.” There was no real personal connection outside of that to speak of for me. It really wasn’t until my son introduced me to TSD and I began hanging out with my fellow misanthropes and reprobates who make up this wonderful 30DC crew that I started having fun. I do enjoy this hobby. Being retired makes it all the more interesting.

You mention the items your father&grandfather had. I'm sure that if I did a better job of taking my Mom up on her suggestion that "I think we'll find one of his(my grandfather)shave brushes around here somewhere..he'd be happy if you had it" I would have gotten into the wet shaving hobby much earlier than I did. (We were scrounging around in the attic of what was my mom's childhood house, for whatever we could find to help the current owner get rid of stuff, but we didn't find his shave brush. ).

Thank you Bruce. Despite several adult beverages, the AS-D2 is not on the way. Maya and I did order a few little small things off Amazon but the razor remains on the wishlist.

He is back! How did he escape Guantanamo?

I am normally not a patina fan but in the case the history, your connection to the family and the patina make this razor very special. The patina does look great on this razor.

Thanks, Keith! I’m much the same way! My TR6 has a German Wire Harness and twin American carburetors, anathema to some of the purists who scream ‘factory original’. My response is that I wanted my car to run and be reliable. This F Type razor is definitely not factory original, but boy does it shave! I like keeping the original nicks and scratches.

Pour a little in a glass and suck it up with an eyedropper. Squeeze the bulb and you will have drops. Lol!

What you've said about B&B echos what others have said. It's all about using the most expensive gear and doing things their way. I have no use for that. We all like seeing the latest & greatest high end gear. As we all know in the 30DC, it's not the price of the gear that makes the shave. It's the person using the gear. That's what makes this particular thread so awesome. It's anything but pretentious here. Just a nice group of guys sharing the love of the hobby, using a wide variety of products.

I might add that those in this group that do use high end stuff, don't think they are better than anyone else. I also will say that other members who may not have any high end stuff still encourage those who do to bring it out. I have not seen any jealousy, backbiting or belittling anyone for using whatever razor, software, etc. Yes, we all like shiny and new, but there's something to be said of the vintage razors that are tried and true. In conclusion, we have a nice group of guys.
