Trust me, Joe, I don't need to ask. He loves to offer it to me freely. In all honesty, knowing how heavier razors work better for me with my Parkinson's, he was the one who suggested I try the weights on my forearms. I did it because I was tired of him harassing me about the "Perfectly good Dovo Special" in my drawer, and how I had to get back on the horse. The bugger guilted me by telling me "wasn't that what I taught him?" In any case, I'm pursuing this straight shaving project only because he's agreed to handle the maintenance end of things. He is always asking me about my shaves. He belongs to the school of thought that 'there is no shave closer than a straight shave'. We do argue this point regularly and always respectfully agree to disagree. As a retired data scientist, my response is always, I'll believe that when I experience that and not before. I honestly can't imagine any shave closer than the ones I routinely experience with my select group of safety razors, most particularly my AC razors fitted with a Feather Super blade.

That sounds like my Rex Ambassador. My two Old Types both date from 1905 and feature the twist knob at the end of the handle that slides out of the handle. The baseplate is affixed to the top of the handle. So we're technically still talking about a three piece razor.

Yes we had a great time. And yes the two Old Types have the same three piece opening mechanism as my New Improved.

I have to say that my straight shaves last longer than my DE shaves. The Schick Injector gives me a closer shave than my DE's and my DE's give me close shaves. My last shave was with the Schick and I am debating on shavette shaving. I look presentable, but I want a decent growth for Fantastic Friday's shave. However, I think that I will wait for tomorrow because I do not want to irritate my skin by shaving with very little growth. Anyway, I have had DE shaves that felt better than a straight shave, but the beard grows more quickly; not so with a straight. Go figure!

    JustOneJuly Shave #22

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Razor Retro Shavette
    Blade: Feather Pro Super
Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts 26 mm Tuxedo
    Lather: Razorock Stallion
Aftershave: Wholly Kaw King of Oud
    Additional Care:
    Barbero Alum Block
    Stirling Tea Tree Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

Morning shave, early evening post. I had a busy day preparing for my daughter’s birthday party. Food and weather were perfect. Weather upper 80’s, ideal for the pool especially after spending sometime in a hot kitchen and by the BBQ.

Today’s shave featured a new blade for me. The Feather Pro Super performed extremely well. It delivered an awesome shave, however, one weeper appeared on the third pass. Fortunately, the weeper was short lived. It disappeared following the fourth lathering. I like to finish up with a final lather that I leave on my face while I begin to clean up the hardware. Then I’ll wipe it off with a towel, hit the face with some hot water, then cold and a final splash of the iced water from the brush scuttle.

For my world, this happens from time to time. There are a couple open edge razors I have, along with the Feather AC DX set up as a kamisori, that I will have less 'left over' for clean up after 2 passes, than when I do 2 passes with most of my safety razors. The exception is the Rex Ambassador, and every now and then the Blackland Dart or Vector.

My thought on this consistency is that it's angle/pressure/muscle memory of those razors (both straight/kami or safety). i.e. the ones I use most. The area is always the same, right lower jawline/upper neck. The growth pattern must come in really flat, cause I want to think I've tried everything.

Once or twice I've ventured on thinking it's the slickness of a soap/cream. Then I use that soap/cream again, and nope.....not repeatable. That human factor.....

Excellent shave, Joe! I do the same thing. I relather at the end of the shave and then I wet the brush to take the lather off my face. Of course, this is after I get the soap off the brush. Personally, I do this to get an extra dose of the scent and not waste the soap. Doing this with a menthol soap is awesome.
