Great shave with your Japanese razor, Keith! Shaving with a straight edge in that condition tells me your muscle memory is well-ingrained!

Sorry for the nicks, Maestro! The Feather Super in that razor is very unforgivingly Sharp! Have you ever considered the Feather Proguard? You’re a much more experienced straight shaver than me, but I did notice a difference. Your exhausted hands sound like mine without the forearm weights. Of course, a younger man like you wouldn’t ever need that!;) Lesson learned, I guess!

Thank you, Jeff. It had nothing to do with the blade choice, as I normally get a great shave with a Feather Super. I could have had any blade inserted yesterday and I would have had the same terrible results. It turns out that my blood pressure was also quite low at the time, so it was a confluence of that and my arm fatigue which led to the poor results.

Today I just felt the need for a spectacular VBBS shave. Enough frittering with the open edge stuff! A number of folks on another forum have been insisting that there is no shave like a straight razor shave for closeness. My unwillingness to buy into their orthodoxy has apparently moved some of the ‘mentors’ on that forum to react in a less than friendly manner when I simply insist that I’ll believe that when I experience it. So today, I grabbed my Blaxkland Vector loaded with a fresh Feather Super, bloomed my MWF, and soaked my @MrEE Brush while I took my shower.

All I can say is that the shave was everything I could have hoped for. Instead of my usual two pass shave, I decided on a traditional, relaxed, leisurely three pass (WTG, XTG, ATG) whisker reduction exercise after not having shaved for two days. The result of which is that I cannot imagine a shave any closer than my shave today! In fact, a metric that would allow me to compare escapes me. So all I’ll say is if I can achieve a shave this close with a straight razor, I’ll be amazed and pleased! Cool, clean, and oh so velveteen!

    RAZOR: Blackland Vector
    BLADE: Feather Super AC
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with the Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
BRUSH: MrEE Aluminum Handle Hybrid Knot
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub. Finished with Mentholated Mysterium Serum.

Good enough shave this morning. Taking the advice of a Chemistry Professor from Long Island, I bloomed the Razorock Lime Burst Soap(it's 3x-milled, thus it needs it all the time, frankly). Did that before stepping into the shower. 0:30(as usual)to load the soap onto the Maggard synthetic brush.I'm thinking of moving up to 0:35, then 0:40. Baby steps. 2.5 passes. The reason for the 1/2 pass was that I needed a final touch-up along Porcupine Alley. Just southeast of PA, I had a nick. No danger, the thing just showed up and was easily taken off. Nice job down at Cactus Nation. Stoylin Glacial Lime to finish me off. I'm anxious as to which is colder, the Stoylin Glacial or the Osage Rub. I'll find out soon enough, as Osage is set to go for me this coming week for a couple days. Super Duper Excellent.

I just ignore that kind of talk. I get the same results as long as I have sharp blade and an aggressive razor. DE, SE or open blade I can consistently achieve excellent shaves and some times epic. Maybe there is a very slight edge to a well honed straight in terms of irritation.

If the results are the same why do I use straights? Because I enjoy them more and they look cooler to me.
